Used to be a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys...now a commentator on ESPN's NFL program, Gameday, on Sunday mornings. That was his response, last week, when the panel was asked for a Grey Cup prediction.

One of the "tripletts" along with Troy Aikman and Emmit Smith from when the Cowboys won 3 straight Superbowls, a feat that might not ever be repeated, in fact, back to back Superbowls seems unlikely. He had some legal troubles, isn't he a coke head too?

As for CFL expansion, thats a joke, they have 2 teams that went bankrupt this year, get your financial house in order before even thinking about expansion?

Remember the Birmingham Barracudas, Memphis Mad dogs and the Las Vegas Posse ?

Sorry to correct, but the 'Boys won 3 of 4...not 3 straight. They beat Buffalo in 1993 and 1994, San Fran beat the Chargers in '95, and the 'Boys returned to beat the Steelers in '96.

Just like any sports league, expand where there is a fan base and demand for a team.

Quebec is a solid choice, Windsor has some nice possibilities, and the Maritime Provinces (collectively) could support a team based on Halifax perhaps. But I agree, with 2 teams already in financial trouble, how do you expand?

Forget the US. Unless there is another strike, you cant compete with the NFL, and its a travesty to have an American team win the Grey Cup (again).

Would Windsor support the CFL with the Lions just across the river and both the Wolverines and Spartans within an hour's drive?

I was born there, but I have my doubts. Windsor Lancers draw flies (not sure how the Fratmen draw these days...)

I think the better question here is would people from Detroit support a Windsor CFL team? If a team were put in Windsor, it would be there only because of the population in Detroit...Windsor, itself, is not likely big enough.

I doubt if Detroit would support a Windsor team. If fans in the suburbs are going to head in that direction, they'd stop downtown and watch the woeful Lions. And despite the terrible franchise, fans are loyal and support the team in large numbers.

In that case, London might be a better bet. It's larger, has a good rep as university football fans and could draw from a large base, including Chatham, St. Thomas, Cambridge & K-W...

I still think Quebec City is the best bet, although I like the sea-to-sea appeal of Halifax...

Only problem I have with Halifax is that it is almost as long a flight from the current Eastern Div. teams to get there as to get to Vancouver. By league standards, its not exactly a cost cutting measure by putting a team there.

However, just a thought, would two teams survive out there...say Halifax and Moncton or Saint Johns?

Actually, Toronto-Halifax is just a two-hour flight (two-and-a-half heading back west), which is better than any trip to a Western Conference city.

Can't see where the Maritimes could support two teams -- not right away, at least...

One of the teams should be Windsor - big draw from Detroit (Lions have always sucked) City is football crazy and is home to a semi pro team - AKO Fratmen. As for Quebec City - they couldn't even support a Hockey team, a CFL team not a chance.
It's much harder to support an NHL team than a CFL team. Winnipeg and Regina both have solid football franchises but couldn't support an NHL team.

I like either Quebec or Halifax, as either would improve the "national" aspect of the CFL.

Until very recently, none of Université de Montréal, Université Laval or Université de Sherbrooke had varsity teams. In Quebec, only the English universities (McGill, Concordia, Bishops) played. Football among francophones has exploded since 1996. Perhaps it is just a fad, but there clearly is a potential market in Quebec.

I'm always a little confused by comments to the effect that the CFL should fold. Nobody forces anyone to watch the games. No one is forced to read about them in the papers. No one is forced to participate in this thread. If you don't like the CFL, just continue not to support the league. They will not bother you.

Now, considering the current state of the NHL, I might argue the statement that Winnipeg couldn't support the Jets. The state of the league made it awfully difficult to stay there, however, I imagine the Jets would still outdraw the southern teams like Atlanta, Carolina and Phoenix in hockey. The problem there is that the NHL business model is completely screwed up...
