Cell phone blocker

I see on tv shows, spy tv shows, where they can block cell phone signals but they cell phone would still work (or probably work on their wifi connection)

I notice on some in calls that I lose my cell connection -- has anyone else experience this? Is this intentional or is there a sting operation happening and I'm walking into trouble? I've still gone ahead but little freaked out on my imagination

I'm almost positive cell phone blockers/jammers or whatever they are called, block both cell signals and Wi-Fi connections.

I wouldn't read too much into it and start worrying. I frequent a building where there is absolutely no cell signal at all. I can't use my data or place calls or sends texts, I can only connect to their Wi-Fi. Then when I move to another room in that building I'm able to at least connect to 3G and make phone calls and send texts.

No according to this site: http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/smt-gst.nsf/eng/sf10048.html

I would have thought that there might be a power level limit (eg: 100mW or less aren't regulated) so that blanking in your home or a room would be legal. I didn't see that here although I didn't read the regulations.
