What purpose does the CBC serve today? What good programming does it produce? Is it just a re broadcaster of American and old CBC programs from the 70s and 80s?
Their news and documentary stations are top notch. The main TV network has it's high points beyond hockey as well.Metro Morning, The Current, Q, Radio Noon, The Late Show, The House, Vinyl Café, Quirks and Quarks, Cross-country Check-up, Here and Now, As it Happens, and the brilliant (tho' not what it once was) Ideas, as well as the all-night re-broadcasts of news from other parts of the world. There's also the interesting music on Radio-Canada. I understand they also have a TV service as well.
only those who believe this never watch itCBC is simply a tool for the Liberals to get their word out. IT IS NOT AN UNBIASED BROADCASTER!
I'm sick of my tax dollars going to waste on a station that has nothing of real value.
Good to know someone on here works for the CBC.Their news and documentary stations are top notch. The main TV network has it's high points beyond hockey as well.
A viable, well funded, arms length public broadcaster (Be it on Radio, TV, or the Internet) is a valuable public service. The only developed Western nation without a strong arms length public broadcaster is due south, and even their 'good news' is pretty bad for a large variety of reasons. Predominantly private reflecting cooperate biases, highly consolidated, ratings driven, and with an interpretation of free speech that makes spin, lies, opinions, wanking, and propaganda into news and high culture. Not that you only want public broadcasters, but you want two strong systems in parallel with some asymmetric competition.
+1I value CBC Radio 2. It's the only voice on the radio that discusses global topics in an intelligent way. I like the fact that people all over Canada, especially the ones living in rural parts get to hear stories about women's issue in Africa, philosophical debate about health care, and many other topics of this ilk. It provides a conduit for creating a collective consciousness about our place in this world as Canadians.
That's not necessarily a bad thing ..Their mandate is to inform Canadians about the latest happenings on Coronation Street.
No. But I did interview for them once. Looong ago...Good to know someone on here works for the CBC.
If there was another party in power you could just change the party name. CBC is a propoganda machine...so is every other major network in the world, none of them are unbiased.CBC is simply a tool for the Liberals to get their word out. IT IS NOT AN UNBIASED BROADCASTER!
