I can only speak from my own experience:
The basic surgery using "standard" lenses is covered by OHIP.
There are all kinds of options which cost extra (sometimes seems like choosing options on a new car): better lenses; blue tinted lenses; special photo imaging and measuring techniques to help select the right lens... and, now, it seems like Herzig is the first to introduce a new technology that no one else in Canada is presently using.
The "standard" surgery (think Toyota or Honda) and lenses do the job quite well. If you have money to spare you can upgrade to a Cadillac, MB or Rolls Royce... but the marginal upgrades are just that: marginal.
When I had mine done I paid extra for blue tinted lenses, the special photo and measuring techniques and astigmatism correction. And I chose Herzig at the time because I thought they were ahead of the pack in experience and technology. Now there are several other clinics that are equally competent and experienced.
And from the research I did, I was satisfied that the blue lenses help with glare when driving at night, which many people have reported. I have had no problems whatsoever. I am very happy with the results.
Good luck... it is a relatively easy procedure that will help your sight tremendously. For me, the "before and after" comparison was like I was living in a darkened room and someone turned on the lights...
