Plus I had to take cab to work today. There was no towing-zone sign either. And this was not a major street.

Is the $200 all inclusive (parking tickets, tow, pound, etc.)?

No, I just realized that the $200 doesn't include the ticket. Tack on another $60 for that.

Total cost: About $300.

Was it on a street or on private property? If it was on private property you don't have to pay just go tp pick it up and when they ask for money tell them you are not paying as it is covered under common law and they have to release the car. If they want to get paid they have to take you to small clamis court which they usually won't.

Think of it this way. That money wasn't going to stick in your pocket anyway. You might have spent it on an SP or food or rent.

That makes me feel a lot better. Not.

Welcome to the club. When they towed me I came out of a store on Bloor St. and car was gone. I asked the manager of the store I parked in front of (legally when I arrived, but parking ended at a certain time that I was unaware of) and he told me what lot it was being taken to, plus complained that the bas***** drive their customers away. I hailed a cab to go there, and the cab beat the car to the lot. After I got there and was looking around for my car I saw the tow truck with my car show up and drive in. Good job I keep $$ cash in my wallet so I was out in 10 minutes but a pain in the a**.

Oh no, you should have stopped the tow truck BEFORE he drove in.

My dancer friend saw her car on the tow truck. She chased that truck. Finally, caught up to it. Used her charm but didn't work. Offered the tow truck driver $100 cash. Got her car back on the spot.

You can still take the ticket to court, you've got 15 days to request a trial. Call one of the good Traffic Ticket agents. They'll tell you if you can get the $200.00 back. If you're near Keele and Eglinton, request a trial there. If you go to the downtown office it'll take hours to stand in line. There's a traffic ticket guy across the street from York Municipal Offices at Eglinton. Parking is easier as well and won't take nearly as long.
It's always worth requesting a trial since a minor offence gets forgotten and it doesn't go into the system so it won't affect your insurance premiums.

I think you have read one too many traffic ticket threads on Terb. Parking tickets do not go against your insurance premiums.

When my dancer friend went to pay her parking ticket(s) they couldn't find it in the system. This was great as I had offered to pay half (I know, I know, I am a nice guy).

Indeed they don't, it is only traffic offences such as speeding and ignoring red lights that cause loss of points. I was only going above and beyond with my 0.02c

most tow trucks will have a release fee that you can pay to have your car dropped on the spot.

Another thing to keep in mind, it's illegal for a tow truck to hook up to your vehicle with anyone in it.

If you want to push your luck, hop in and lock the doors

On a related issue, I heard that if you drive away before the parking police places the ticket on your car, then that ticket is invalid. I actually asked a parking police officer this question and she said that is true except she stands directly blocking your exit when she is writing her ticket and it is illegal to hit her with your car. Query: Is it illegal for someone to deliberately block your car when you want to pull away?

Well she's standing there doing her job so I would guess that it is legal for her to stand there. And even if it isn't, by the time you could call and get a cop to show up she'd be done writing your ticket and gone.

She was actually a friendly lady. She told me some of the abuses she suffered on the job. A parking police officer is not the most loved person in the city. She actually told me that she has turned a blind eye to charming people like myself.
