Brake dust shield rattling can the dam thing be fixed without hoisting the car?

Also, had a basic brake job looks like mechanic gave two different ones they looked a bit different n one is starting to form a rusty color coat is that acceptable? Brakes work fine

Wondering mechanic trick loosen dust shield to bring customer in again

Down below
The life of brakes depends up on the thickness of the discs and padding on the brake pads. The dust shield rattling can be fixed by tightening the mounting screws. The rusty color has nothing to do with the brake problems as this could be due to the damp weather. If your brake pedal has enough travel and the car stops properly you should be good. However I would not take chances at least with brakes. It is difficult to diagnose without having looking at the car. Sorry for not able to provide enough help here.

You can most likely squeeze under without lifting the car or bend it a bit away from the disc with a screwdriver

No. You don't need a hoist. You only need to Jack the wheel off the ground. The wheel bearing hub assembly has to come off because it mounts behind it with the hub mount bolts. You need a special puller to remove the hub. You'll also have to replace the wheel hub because you'll damage it pulling it off more than likely.

If it's just the noise that's bothering you, just rip it off with vice grips or something. It wouldn't pass a safety but guys rip them off all the time. It won't cause any danger of hurt anything

They're only thin metal and salt rots them. If it's rattling and not rubbing its probably rotted and loose around the mounting bolts. If it's rubbing just remove the wheel and bend it away from the brake rotor with your hand.

And no. There's no way a mechanic would loosen your hub bolts to bring you back in.
