Canada's population topped 41 million. But is this the rise before the fall?

We did need the young age demographic influx(look what is happening to many nations). And honestly the concentrated on the lower skill type because that will be needed as well. But it's time to slow it down and give the nation a chance to play catch up.

You mean the idea that if you invite someone to move into your home you should have a bed set up for them, fill the fridge and put out clean sheets.

How racist <he said sarcastically>

What is it that needs to be caught up?

Housing, Medical capacity, education capacity, other city services. That's a start. Transit capacity is on the way, hopefully enough as many of these immigrants were lower income.

We added a lot more than usual. Even beyond what we didn't add during covid.

'Housing, medical capacity, education capacity' are not city services as your first sentences wrongly avers. So, 'that's a start' as you declare in sentence #2 is farcical.

'Transit capacity is on the way' as your 3rd sentence proclaims is both laughable and apocalyptic at the same time. Your fav Long Done Doing Tory pie in the sky SmartTrack is SmashedUpTrack and your fav Ford follies Eglinton Crosstown, Scarborough Extinction subway are decades in the making and decades in completing, if ever.

Now your fav Long Done Dong Tory eastern edge of the Gardiner realignment a few meters to the north and his patching up the rest of it plus Ford's Ontario Line monumental traffic congestion for decades are creating traffic congestion of Biblical proportions.

Some sectors of industry are still clamouring for workers, workers that do jobs that Canadians either cannot do or will not do, jobs that immigrants will be doing. We are entering an election where as in America, immigration is a prime wedge issue but perhaps “ catch up” can never really happen. Medically, the recent immigrants are younger and in good health as opposed to the large numbers of aging boomers who are requiring most of the medical and health related resources due to age related factors.
The baby boomer cohort is going to require a lot of care and much of it will be done by immigrants as is the case now.
Notice the opposition Conservatives are wisely not saying much because they know that they will be forced to carry out and continue many of Trudeau’s policies.

Will they be forced to bring in 1 million immigrants per year?

The PC party is not known to be ant-immigration.

Blame corporate Canada for the rise in temporary foreign workers. They want to hire workers whose permit is hired to their employment, who can't quit.
Fast food, farm work, construction....

Canada entered into a marriage of convenience with many recent immigrants to help to tackle the negative birthrate, low productivity and worker shortage with obvious positives and negatives. Some of the recent immigrants went back home. India is the largest source of immigrants recently, and those immigrants who came in 2023 are doing ~ 300, 000 jobs in 2023 that Canadians cannot or will not do. Previously immigration from the PRC was the largest source of immigration but that deal soured, many people returned to China and they were people who also would not or couldn’t do the jobs that recently primarily Indian immigration are doing right across Canada in major centres and even medium to small cities.
Other countries with declining birthrates were not as successful as Canada in finding a solution, albeit an imperfect one.
To look after the heavy healthcare requirements of the large percentage of aging baby boomers, Canada must bring in a large amount of foreigner works immediately as Canadians either cannot or will not do these jobs among others.

Yes the government listens to Corporate Canada most of the time and if industry suffers then economic collapse looms.

Though one large source of legal immigrants has been cut massively, international students.

For years DoFo has cancelled all tuition increases and all funding increases which lead to Ontario universities relying on the bigger tuition coming from international students. Those have been cut federally meaning this fall most Ontario universities are screwed for cash, no international students, no new funding and they are not allowed to raise tuition.

Corporate Canada likes the near indentured slavery of cheap international temporary workers, they won't give them up until they are forced to.
Whether or not PeePee will turn on his base, who want temporary workers cut, or turn on corporations is yet to be seen.

Polilevre’s base like everyone else are end users of this “temporary worker” labour whether they will admit it or not.
For the Conservatives or any else who governs Canada, turning on the corporations is a non-starter.
Once Poilievre gets in, and if he gets a majority, people should not expect that many things that Trudeau has done and is doing will continue although with ultimately very different optics to satiate the UPC Alberta base and other areas in Canada that are clamouring for a change.
However, no Canadian Government can get “blood out of a stone”.

The flooding of the job market by boomers ruined lives and careers. And now we have to flood it again?

No one says much about immigrants who then bring over their elderly parents and grandparents who contribute nothing to society but use up our healthcare resources.

If the Canadian Government is that stupid then more power to the immigrants who take full advantage of this offer. Few countries would permit this fiasco which has serious elements of absolutely no respect to the taxpayer.
Canada is no longer able to afford this massive financial burden, this imported dead weight and actually it should have never been allowed to happen . Politicians to get elected and/ or to stay elected offered it .

One of the most vile, hateful and racist individuals that I know is a lady that immigrated to Canada, imported and got Canadian citizenship for her geriatric parent who as is the case with seniors required extended hospital care while receiving the Canadian pension. Ironically, this person cannot stand the fact that people from India in particular are recently allowed to come to Canada, people who are for the most part hardworking and more educated than her.

They don't get Canada Pension, they have to be here 20 years. But ya they get the Healthcare, which is a lot more expensive.
