You are worth what people are willing to pay you. A CEO that can revitalize a fading business has earned his keep. A business entity has no obligations to the public, the main objective is to stay in business and make a profit. Especially in these hard times.
I do agree with this in theory.
But that is not what's happening in practice.
CEO and their boards and main VP's (who get their fair share of action) all work together to grab as much money as possible for their pocket. They grab public funding to 'save' the company yet still give themselves millions. Their main objective is to return as fucking much as possible to shareholders... Meaning themselves first and foremost. While their employee should be happy to still have a job they shop for a bigger cottage house, a boat, and possibly a plane.
In practice, the greed of the CEO and their board is a fucking joke. But they sell you the theory...
I have no problem with extreme capitalism if it's what we want. But then do not complain about homelessness, extreme violence, and the deterioration of our cities.
p.s. I found out recently that more than half of Montreal's new high-end condos (worth a million or more) are empty... Probably the same everywhere...
