It didn't reflect well upon him, to be sure. On the other hand, consider the alternative. Had he just shrugged it off in Stoic fashion before the media, we'd now be hearing various iterations of the following spin:

Etc. ad nauseam. Given that he's a conservative, this spin would stick longer and deeper than merely setting himself up to look like a saphead. It's probably all an act (kinder, gentler, sensitive new-age Conservative and all that).

I would be loath to vote for the federal PC's but MacKay should have shaken it off in Halifax and stayed incognito.

Then..

He's a good looking guy and is politically, upwardly mobile.

Grab the suits, write and rewite his points and catch a plane to Ottawa.

He should have been collected And In the House to address his dismay at losing a "political partner" while reinforcing the success of his party and the importance of their mandate.

He just looked like a loser that got dumped by the prom Queen. Where the
hell were the consultants and image councillors?

The federal PC's are ghetto with their ability to handle these situations.
