In response to the crisis, Canada dispatched a C-17 Globemaster cargo plane to the region to assist with medical evacuations after a request from the U.S. government.

The aircraft departed CFB Trenton with medical supplies and a team of 12 emergency personnel.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay said the plane and its crew will be put under the command of U.S. forces to evacuate "medically sensitive" individuals.
Canada rocks.

Good PR for Harper. Not entirely sure that sending a C-17 to a country that more of that version of plane than any other on the planet really makes much sense when it probably could have been better used in Jamaica or Cuba though.

Apparently we have a bilateral agreement with the Americans covering this type of aid and a request was made by the US. Still seems weird that last time they told us to piss off finally relenting on the water being delivered by ship and then ask this time?
