Funny. I went to a Tim Hortons recently and saw the Unicef box full of cash for the relief fund. There was about 6-7 people in line and people sitting at the tables. Of course with my big mouth I said to a couple of people:
What about a fund for education and cousilling in the schools or more community centers? Why not give to that so that your children - our children - have somewhere to go besides doing drugs, joining gangs, etc?
A minister came to Hands from Heaven Spa to see me one day. I believe it was in November. He is working with kids throughout Woodbridge, bringing them together in the community. They have out door activities for the kids, camp, etc. I told him that I think what he is doing is spectacular. In the end, it's our children that control the future. Everything that you experience in your lifetime is a waste unless you pass that knowledge onto your kids.
Even children are giving to the Tsunami Relief Effort. Meanwhile, children here are being abducted, molested, abused, etc, right in front of our eyes. Why didn't we stand up then? How many block parents are there out there? How many of us all brought food to the shelters over Christmas? Do your children collect for unicef on Halloween? If you see a child being abused by the parent, do we pick up our phone to call it in?
Why don't we give to people in need all over the world? Why not give in our own back yards?
Last winter I saw a man standing on the 407, shaking with cold beside his car, holding up a sign saying, 'help me.' The man told me that he had been standing there for over 40 mintues. No one stopped. He had blew his transmission. He came here from another country only months ago, works as a network analist and lives in a small apartment with his wife. Doesn't have a cell phone because he cannot afford it. I paid the tow truck to take him home. Why did no one else stop? It's a shame.
I've stopped for more people than I can count who have been stuck on the road. Then it happened to me. I almost rolled my car two weeks ago. My car, sitting on it's side in a ditch off hwy 10. My little lab puppy.. only 10 weeks old, went for a ride in the back seat. I was surprised and it only confirmed my beliefs of 'what comes around goes around' - 8 different people stopped for me to find out if I was okay.
The tow truck driver tells me, 'you are lucky to be alive.. '... I answer him back.. 'I know that... I'm a pretty good driver but it was my caution that caused it... but I can honestly say.. that if I was to have died.. I would have no regrets.. most people think.. I should have said this to my parents.. or should have done that.. but if I was to have done it all over again.. there's little I would have done differently. Would you?.. If it were you?'......No answer.... I said to the tow truck driver, 'are you married?'... he says, 'yeah'... I said, 'be sure to always tell your wife and your children every day that you love them... because you never know.... live your life without regret... don't wait for disaster to strike.'

Help all the time. Not only some of the time.
It's truly amazing! Everytime I come here, I put money in that box for the kids and everytime I do, it's practically empty but for a few pennies and quarters. It's amazing at how much money people will give for another country when in need, which, don't get me wrong, is commendable, but why not be so generous for those in need here, in Canada as well? Why wait until disaster strikes?
