(There's another thread complaining about the Rio Olympics, but didn't want sully Canada's achievements in that thread)

Canadian ladies 4x100m swim relay wins the first medal of the games, a bronze medal, the first in 40 years in that event since Montreal in 1976! And the first ladies medal of any sort since 1996, 20 years!

I was surprised at how young and tall they were. A couple of 16 yo still growing at 6feet tall, a 19yo 6'4 tall. Actually, the Aussie and the Dutch teams were all really tall. I didn't realize swimming became a tall person sport.

Fun race watching Canada's anchor holding off the Dutch sprinter.

I was surprised that Genie beat Sloane Stephens, extremely sad that Vincenzo Nibali broke both his collarbones in a crash.

Yes, congrats to the women's team. I've seen Penny race and she's awesome for a 16 year old.

Canada's Female National Team- they did us proud in London, only horrifically bad officiating could stop them.

Since then The Selects have had a 60% turnover rate. Younger and very talented players are coming in. With the new regional development system more properly developed players will be available in the future. Janine Beckie looks like the successor to Christine Sinclair (beautiful goal at the beginning of this clip). Keisha Buchanan (no. 3) is already the best Centerback Canada has ever produced and a protege of Bob Iarusci's Vaughan Azzurri Academy. He quit his job at TheFan 590 to run the program. They are going to do damage in Rio!

Women's beach v-ball has always been pretty gratuitous but now they have the booty cam! There is a "thinly veiled" net cam but situated on the ground to show the girls crouching and jumping with close ups of their ass. Not that I'm complaining, they already have a rule that restricts bikini bottoms from being NO MORE than 2in; to ensure enough wedgies and cheeks.
This is getting exploitive.

I will continue to monitor carefully for further developments :D

Their height gives them the long wingspan that makes them powerful swimmers.

Now I know why Milos Raonic stayed home Juan Martin del Potro is back! His forehand is harder than most player's serve. Joker is in a battle.

del Porto will be a real dark horse at the US Open. A Slam he beat Roger Federer to win.

Yeah, if you go back 40 years to the Montreal summer games, the top female swimmers such as Kornelia Ender and Shirley Babashoff were under 6' tall.

Our own Nancy Garapick (she was only 14 years of age at the time )who won 2 bronze in swimming 100 and 200 m backstroke, at those games was only 5'6" (she should have won 2 golds as she lost to the juiced up east germans) Nancy was also the world record holder of the 200m backstroke at age of tender age of 13.

great final 50 metres to take silver!
Priceless reaction. Takes a few seconds to catch her breath before she looks up at the leaderboard and realizes she scored silver!

Phelps led the US men's 4x100m free relay to gold upsetting the favoured France. Exciting race.

Female swimmers peak at 14-18.

High performance athletics is all about training and peaking at just the right time; it looks like Penny O has nailed it for the Olympics. She is setting new career best times by 1sec in 58sec races.
She may be the most fear 16yo in swimming cuz no one knows how fast she can go, including herself. She has 4 more races on her plate, she may get a few more medals. Watch out!

Ok not Canadian but it's a stunning upset. Del Potro defeats Djokovic!

But is it really? If it weren't for his wrist injuries Del Potro would be the World No. 1 today.

Kylie Masse wins a 3rd medal in the pool, bronze in the 100m backstroke. After a 20 year drought. Future is bright.

Ladies rugby wins a bronze too.
