Recently scraped my desktop and replaced with IBM A31 laptop. Then acquired a decent set of speakers for a good deal as well. Problem is cannot not hook up rear speakers or middle one because no 5.1 sound card. I notice on the instructions to hook up speakers they show 5.1 diagram with more output connections then I have on the side of my laptop. A friend of mine suggested a good place to get a deal on 5.1 card at College/Spadina. Problem I foresee is that looks to me like a 5.1 sound card requires more output connections then I have room for on the side of my IBM A31. I like to appear that I at least know a little about what I'm talking about before I go shopping for a fix. Thanks in advance if anyone can help me with some info etc... Thanks.

If you need more USB ports, you can buy a hub that will give you several extra spots to plug in. It's like a splitter, you can get one at any electronics store like Future Shop, then you can plug in additional stuff like a mouse, speakers, keyboard, printer etc.

Just another idea. A colleague of mine got a Sound Blaster pcmcia card. I don't know which exactly but I googled and I think it was the below

Don't need to be mobile with speakers. Connections for the speakers though are Philips not USB. Although could maybe rig some sort of adapter I'll bet they might say at computer store.
I wouldn't shop at FutureShop if you paid me.
