Is it really worthwhile to upgrade from a 720p camcorder to a 1080p camcorder? Is the difference in image quality that noticeable?

Are you going to burn to blu-ray or transfer to a HD (ie ps3)?

I own both, I don't see that big a difference

No, but I would like to save it to my computer harddrive HOWEVER I THINK I HAVE TO UPGRADE MY COMPUTER AND MONITOR TO HANDLE 1080p. Right now it my computer can handle 720p at 30 fps but not at 60fps.

It's like many other things, the "narrow part of the pipe" will determine quality....

Here is my take. It is a quantum leap from 640x480 to 1280x720 but only a minor jump from 1280x720 to 1920x1080.

I'd say that's true.

Most broadcast HD is 720P, many PS3 games are still 720P. Depending on what your filming (family, vacations....) I'm not sure it's going to matter that much.
