I will start this by saying that Taboo was never the classiest club in the Ottawa area. However 10+ years ago, my buddies and I use to frequent it fairly regularly. Drinks were a decent price, girls were average to better and the mileage was way above anything you could have dreamed about getting across the street at Pigal. Extra-curricular was almost always on the menu there, and on more than one occasion I made use of the motel adjacent to the club (for some take-out). It use to be you could count on a good time in a "relatively" safe enviroment.
That all being said, I am sure there were problems back then, but not to today's scale. In the past three years, their have been a minimum of 3 shootings in the club, numerous knifings, and brutal robberies in and outside the club. It is to the point now that legit clients looking to spend a few hundred bucks on a night out won't go near the place. All that is left for Taboo are young "urban" men not looking to spend money in the club, but looking at it as source of income, "pimpin the bitches". This latest dispute was over whose property one of the strippers was.
Something needs to change. One one hand the police are catching shit all the time about racial profiling, and unfair treatment in stopping certain types of individuals, based on dress, behaviour etc. However, anytime we have this sort of outburst at a club, these sorts of people are involved. These want-a-be gansters and thugs are getting more braisen and aggresive. While political correctess says we are infringing on their civil rights if the police attempt to speak to them, stop them, or enquire about their intentions, it is society as hole that suffers from their anti-social behavour. Policital correctness doesn't allow the Club to bar entry to these men, even though it is almost certain they will cause trouble.
Anyways, while things remain like this, it will be the club owner, and the ladies who will suffer. As customers who do not want to get mixed up in shootouts, shakedowns, and parking lot robbieres will be staying away. The customers who would drop a couple hundred bucks in a bar bill and several hundred more on the ladies.
