I spoke to a broker who's bro worked at RIM. He said despite their failings, they still have a lot of cash with little debt, and have trimmed the fat cat expenses. They still are not out yet. However, he did concede that they can be bought out.

Palm had the PIM market for a while, RIM pushmail, now Google and Apple (and Amazon in tablets) the ecosystem driven market.

Had Apple not innovated beyond the iPod they'd be in the same position as RIM....
