My brothers and I just bought our parents a new LG LCD TV and they seem to be getting a buzzing sound from the TV every now and then. It's not all the time, and it doesn't look like it's anything to do with an AC cable crossing over the video. We've set them up with an HDMI cable from the Rogers PVR to the TV. I was going to say that it seems to be more so when the PVR is "thinking" - like when it's loading Rogers on Demand, but it does it while watching tv as well.

It's a 42" LG 1080P LCD TV with 120 Hz refresh rate. Any ideas out there what to check for?

Take it back and exchange it for another.
Heard a buzzing sound on a display model in a store and sales tech said it was defective. I was surprised they didn't pull the plug so customers would not see and hear it.

Unfortunately a lot of TVs buzz especially plasmas. It seems to occur most when displaying bright, intense images and is most audible when little or dialogue and/or music is being played. You can try exchanging it but I wouldn't be surprised if its a problem with all TVs of the same model. Check AVS forums to find out more

give it a good whack! oh wait that only works on CRT TVs har har! another reason to miss 'em.

by the way LG sucks...seen dead LCD monitors die quick compared to other brands while working IT...also I had an LG DVDburner, I used it maybe only 6times in the year & half I had it, then it crapped out on me, total POS!

Wasn't the world so much simpler with the old CRTs?
There seem to be so many problems of all kinds with the new TVs.
no kidding, aside from moving them.

my Panasonic CRT TV refuses to die...and I will likely not bother upgrading until it does...besides, i've got better than HD, as I get outta the house to fish the surf, and hey sometimes I see bikini gals =b

Take it back for sure. The power supplies in these TV's have a lot of components that can buzz without failing. If you take one apart you will see many of the parts glued to the board to prevent them from making noise when they vibrate.

CRT's can also have this issue with the fly back transformer.

I can't say if LG is any worse than others for power supplies as many brands have the same boards on the inside.

A similar thing happened to a neighbor of mine this week, it turned out to be the connection between the Rogers Box and the TV. Used a different cable and the 'buzzing' went away.

That's exactly what it turned out to be. We didn't have an HDMI cable at the time so we just used the component cables at the time. After we swapped it out for the HDMI cable, it got rid of the annoying buzz. Thanks all.

There is so much electronics in those things that all kinds of weird problems are showing up.
He also said that although plasma are supposed to last about 100k hours (many, many years of viewing time), they
are breaking down in 2-4 years.
A lot of this is marketing hype and BS!
They said the same about CFL bulbs, that they will last 5-7-10 yrs.
Well I bought a bunch of them and a few failed after only 2 yrs!
Luckily I saved the original packaging not believing their longevity hype and so far have replaced about 10 for free that failed! On the plus side my electric bill did drop after converting most over to CFL bulbs.
