Hello Folks

I was just wondering if you might be able to tell me what's involved in, first of all selling my car privately (ie. Autotrader etc)? Do I have to provide anything, are there any government forms to fill? How do you go about arranging test drives and payment?

What about buying a used car? I'm thinking from a reputable dealers lot. Is there any way to find out the vehicles history? Thanks for all the help!

Hey,
I know how you can find out the vehicle history. You need to get the VIN number and then go to www.carfax.com You can enter in the VIN number at this site and they will give you the entire car history, including how many owners, whether there were salvage titles, or leins etc. You have to pay but it's worth it. I used it one time I was about to buy a car from a dealer. He told me it had never been in an accident and when I typed in the info it actually had a salvage title, so yea it costs like 20 bucks or whatever on the site but in turn it saved me from buying a crappy car.

Contact the MTO and get a used vehicle information package. The car will not sell unless it has been safetied and emmissions test is still valid.

You need proof of ownership to sell the vehicle.

if you don't know the seller never buy private.
always use a dealer.
private cars unknown to you have a very high chance of being from a curbsider. speedometers spun accident repaired no warranty no recourse for anything even if the vehicle is repossessed or recovered as a stolen revinned vehicle. always demand a used vehicle information pac even from a dealer and see how many owners and any desrepincies in mileage from owner to owner and year to year. just like sex don't cum unprepared keepyourself covered

Buying a car

The info package has nothing to do with odometer readings. It does not state them anywhere. As for selling it you do not have to cert. and e-test your car just sell it as-is the new owner can do all that and you dont have any headaches.

Few years ago, 'Curb-siders' were popular, car thief ring/questionable bodyshops selling hot or wrote-off cars using other people's ownership papers. Police crack down on that but you should only go with reputable.

If there is a lien against car, even if you legally brought it from reputable dealer, the car belongs to whoever owns the lien. So hope the reputable dealer did detail background check. carfax is a good idea.

I rarely buy new to let others take the depreciation hit. Shop around, there are some gems but set $ aside, in case of hidden problem requiring repairs later.
