Hi all
I found a car on copart ( I am a registered buyer) that I am interested in. Only caveat is no ownership available. How would I go about getting an ownership post purchase? Anyone have experience in this?
Thank you

You need to ask the seller why "ownership" is not available? Is it a stolen car? It sounds like you will be buying a lot of trouble. Don't do it.

<Spock Vulcan Voice> It is logically impossible to become the owner of something if you do not acquire the ownership. The only thing you have acquired by your payment is some certainty that the 'seller' will peacefully allow you to drive 'their' vehicle away. There is also little likelihood the seller will inform the police that you are driving a vehicle you do not own, but that is not a consequence of your payment

"Ownership" is a misnomer in Ontario when it comes to cars.

The "Registration" is just that, a "registration" of the vehicle with the MTO. The MTO does not adjudicate "ownership"

There is no "Title" document in Ontario either. Some US states use this.

If it were me, I would not bother with it. But if you really want to chase it down, the first step is to conduct a PPSA search https://www.ontario.ca/page/register-security-interest-or-search-lien-access-now

This will tell you who might have a registered security interest in the vehicle.

You might also try to go to a Service Ontario place and explain and ask them if they can search the VIN number.

No experience. Bad idea, move on until you can acquire something with a clean title.

From the Ontario web page:
"You can replace lost, damaged, or stolen car ownership paper at Service Ontario. The lost vehicle ownership replacement cost is $32. Bring identification, your driver's license, and proof of insurance with you."
But have the seller do it and also check that there is no lien against the car.
