A better choice would be the Sony WEGA 42" Plasma TV that's on sale now @ Future Shop for $3,499.99 (regular price $4,499.99). You can save more than half compared to the 52" inch version unless you don't want to lose the 10 inches and money is no option to you.

If you're spending that much money, check out several store's before buying. Have a look at the Sony Store (they never have any special's) but they are good at answering technical question's. Once they answer all your questions, just go elsewhere with the information to make a purchase.

Check out the link below for detailed information on Sony product's:

Panasonic is the top of the line brand for all Plasmas. Their resolution and contrast can not be equaled by another other brand with the exception of NEC. The one thing that stopped me from buying a plasma was its viewing life... 8000 hrs. I think only Panasonics' most recent model is rated at 30,000 hrs... the life of a regular CRT television set. However, the price for Panasonic's lastest is pretty steep... greater than $25k. I'd rather wait until Panasonic's latest model comes down in price.

myself i am not sold on these plasmas yet something tells me trouble in the very near futre.

I myself have a 61' Hitachi and am happy, for the kind of money your willing to pay i would seriously look around first there are alot of great deals out there.

They now make a 70' tv i believ it is only RCA and Sony, but for that kind of money i would seriously consider a 86' overhead with a drop down screen.

Just a comment on Sony

I got a Sony 57" rear projection a couple yrs ago...shopped this thing pretty good....was ready to buy at the Brick...but figured if I'm gonna buy a Sony....why not buy from them....went into the Sony store(windsor)...and told them the price the Brick had it at...which was cheaper than Sony Store's listed price for a 51" of the same model....but they matched theBrick price....then knocked another 10% off that, and threw in 3 yrs warranty....needless to say I bought it from the Sony Store....so if you are going Sony...shop it out...and then have the Sony store beat the price...btw, that Sony is still one of the best rear projections out there...but doesn't match plasma....

For some of the pure crap that's on TV these days...why would you need anything bigger than a 32"?...I have a Sony WEGA 27" and it's almost too big for my living room...I guess if you don't mind having your living room looking like a movie theatre.....well fine...hmmm...Kathleen on a 52" TV....

Semi-literate, can't get pm's to work, and $9k to waste... it's a strange world.

It's not as strange as an SP ASKING 1.5 MILLION FOR A DAY OR $ 5000 introduction fee ( check out thread on high class sps )
I can at least see spending $ 9000 on something of value that will last several years and you could resell but 1.5 mill on a f k
now that sinsane. ( new word )

Itsamansworld - Shop around different places. They're all within about the same price range anyways. Just a matter of who'll give you maybe a bit extra. (Not those kind of extras LOL!)

Speaking from a professional standpoint, I don't like plasma screens. They do have a long viewing lifespan, but, they can leak. And when that goes, so does your screen. There's no fixing it. I don't think that their image is as sharp either. We've tested a few new ones out by Sony and we've sent them back. Just not good enough.

In a press release from Sony, they're getting out of making CRT monitors by Mar '05. They are going with LCD's.

Not that you've asked for it, but my opinion is to go with the Samsung's DLP TV's. Sharper image, 160 degree viewing area, the mirrors that are used actually help refract any outside light source that hits the screen directly, to keep the image clear. The life span of the bulb is about 8,000 viewing hours, but, if it goes, you just replace it with a new one. No big deal, and you're all set again.

You can get a 52" for about $5-$6K.

8000 hours is that an accurate number and did you watch continuously or did you take pee breaks

O.K., About 8000 hours....give or take. And, no. No pee breaks, that's what the empty apple juice bottle is for.

Dang.... I still think their CRT WEGA XBR kicks ass. Weighs a farking ton but pic quality is excellent.

Of all the types of TV/Monitor technology, plasma would be my very last choice, mostly because of burn-in concerns. Many people still hate letterboxing, but to avoid differential plasma burning, if you watch something in the 'old' (1.33) aspect ratio on a widescreen set, you have to have *gray* bars on the side - far, far more annoying than black bars top and bottom. I've talked several friends into doing what I do: have a ceiling mounted projector. It takes practically no space, and the screen is as thin as fabric. For DLP and LCD projectors, burn-in is not a consideration, so it just displays where there's picture to see.

This site seems impartial if you want to research further: http://www.projectorcentral.com/

If you want a high end quality Plasma TV, your not going to find it at Future shop, they don't carry the High end Plasma or LCD TV. You will have to go to a store that specializes in these types of TV, for example Bay Bloor radio......ok so it's not a good example, Things there have a tendency to be over priced..
