I have a Speakout 7-11 burner phone been using for years. Recently, I had to switch in my REAL phone SIM card to the burner phone for a few weeks. Will the burner phone have my real information tied in any way to the IMEI number?

If I install a new SIM card to the burner phone, will it be "clean" or is it best to buy a new phone and start over?

It's likely your Real provider could have a record of the IMEI from the burner phone somewhere... It would take serious police work to have your Real provider hand over a list of all IMEI's that connected to the network using your SIM card (thats if they even have that info). This is a risk tolerance judgement on your part - if you're hiding your hobby from the wife I wouldn't worry about it. If you're Walter White smash the phone with a hammer cancel all your accounts and start over with new providers and used phones off of Kijiji.

To best of my knowledge - yes. I use a Speakout phone as well; general wisdom around here has always been to make sure you keep all hardware separate and not swap between phones.

No need for new phone, before you install the new SIM card get the phone cleaned or wiped.

You could make it a bit more complicated by making sure your real SIM is not associated to the 7-11 SIM in any way (in other words, if your real SIM is *NOT* using Rogers, Fido, Chatr, Mobilicity, Petro, Zoomer)
If your real SIM is Freedom (or Ice / Sugar) it is very much less secure

Now is this anything serious beyond paranoia?
It would take police alot of legal legwork to track you and judges need to sign off etc

It could be more dangerous in private sector (anyone with connections / friends in phone industry and will to pay can get the info easier than police can)

I suppose this thread all depends on who you are and what you are trying to hide

even if the real SIM is not associated with the 7-11 SIM, it won't matter, because it will be associated with the 7-11 burner's IMEI number, which has previously been associated with the 7-11 SIM.
The issue I was pointing out is it takes 1 warrant instead of 2
Hence way less safe

But this is only if he is worth the time

The phone itself would not have any information (as long as you're not saving any contacts and clear any call/text history).
However, the carrier would have some sort of record somewhere of the IMEI and the SIM card number that connected to the network.

When you install a new SIM card and activate/connect, the carrier would once again log what IMEI and SIM card is used. Obviously this information can be cross-referenced if the authorities decide to have a need for it and get the appropriate warrants, also gets a bit complicated if you used SIM cards from different carriers (Note that 7-11 Speakout uses Rogers, same as Roger/Fido/Chatr/Zoomer/Cityfone) but if they wanted to they can cross-reference the information.

So, depends on what you consider clean. There isn't really anything to worry about unless you are doing something to attract the heat.
In comparison, even if you brought a used phone on the market and used it innocently as a regular phone (no hobbying, just regular stuff, etc...), the IMEI of the phone could be tied to nefarious activities before. So, really, nothing is really clean unless you buy a new phone (and preferably an international phone (as carriers keep track of IMEI's of phones sold thru carriers (so they can be disabled/blacklisted in case of theft, non-payment, etc...)).

Hey everyone, I have a question about getting my new burner phone hooked up and working ASAP. I'm with Speakout as well and my old burner phone used the regular sized SIM card. My new phone takes the much smaller Nano SIM card.

Is there a very discreet way to get my new phone working with the old number without having to talk to a Speakout rep on the other end? I'd prefer to keep things low-key and not have to deal with a Speakout rep if possible. Does anyone know if there is an automated system to get my new phone working? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

all you should need to do is swap the SIM. since it is smaller you can either talk to Speakout and get a smaller SIM but as you state you do not want to talk to them so simply cut down your SIM. You can purchase a cutter for a few dollars, possibly go to a store and have them cut it, or do it yourself. Everything outside of the chip is just plastic so you will not break anything. You need to get it down to size and shape with the chip in the proper spot.
