Just heard on CTV news net that the Netherlands may soon make it illegal to wear a burka in public. They say that the burka causes 'disturbance' or something like that. I say good for them - I wish Canada would do the same. We actually have laws that say you can't conceal your identity in public but they are not enforced in the case of burkas. I say put the public interest first!

In the case of the public interest, please explain how a woman wearing a burka affects your liberty or rights?

What's next, you don't want people to wear sandels?

Doubt it very much that Canada would ever do anything like this. Part of me thinks they should though.

One bad thing that might come out of such a law though is if they are not allowed to wear burkas in public then they might all be forced to stay home and indoors so they will not expose themselves. At least with the burkas they can come out to go shopping etc... better then being hidden away from public altogether.

Wearing a burka would make women more taboo and thus attractive to some people.
Any escorts have one in their wardrobe for a bit of kinkiness?

Any dancers wear burkas in their stage shows? That would be hot, especially knowing they're naked and oozing with sex underneath.

Many a time Sir Lancs has asked me to wear a burka for him.

I had presumed that he wished to hide his homoerotic fantasies when I was forced to service him.

It wasn't always that way. By way of a little history i was just your normal everyday straight guy until one day I'm going to the Loblaws and there was PHNINE at the cart return. What can I say, my life changed forever on that day,I got far more than I bargained for with the .25 cart deposit.

I don't care about fashion....(although fat people really should avoid spandex).

I do care about having a face hidden. How do you know it is even a woman under there - it could be a bank robber, a murderer, or even a terrorist... If you can't see the face then that is wrong - and against the law.

While I would certainly agree that a woman must have her face available for a ID card such as driver's license or OHIP, and must show her face to have her identify confirmed when asked by police etc, I don't think that allowing a burka is any more offensive than head coverings by Orthodox Jews or the Sikh kirpan.

And if a woman is religious enough to wear a burka, I don't think that she will be "liberated" enough to enter into business contracts. And if she does seek to enter into a business contract, then I would suppose that her religious beliefs could be bent enough to allow you to confirm her identity.

As for being pulled over for having a bandana on your face, I guess that riding a motorcycle might have something to do with it. I've never had any problems with full face protection while riding a sled.

Oh, I don't know. From the comments on here that I have read, I'm sure that seeing L4L would be much easier if she was wearing a burka with a slightly larger mouth hole.

Burkas have nothing to do with Islam. They are meant to control the women by their possesive husbands, so they dont get poked by terbites!

seriously though - the only time I have a problem with Burkas and similar clothing is when they refuse to take it off when clear identity is needed (taking a driver's license photo, a cop trying to ID someone, etc). In cases like that if they refuse to take off clothes that conceal indentity, then that if out of control. Otherwise let people wear what the want. The Netherlands is supposed to be all about social freedoms and letting people be who they want to be - so this hoopla over burkas is a bit hypocritical.
