Bronny James, son of Lebron James, was drafted by the LA Lakers with the 55th pick in the recent NBA draft.
The 19-year-old guard averaged 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting (26.7% from 3), 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.3 minutes at USC after undergoing a heart procedure last summer. He said the nearly five-month layoff because of the medical issue affected his development.
And the Lakers just signed him to a 4-year, $7.9 million contract according to NBA guidelines.

The Lakers just drafted him to fulfill the desire of the father to play with his son. He didnt even bother working out for the Lakers or any other team before the draft
If he wasnt the son of Lebron James, this guy will not be anywhere near an NBA team. Nepotism is alive and well, indeed. He just kept a more deserving talent off an NBA roster. Shame.

Lebron James was an unrestricted free agent. It was just announced he has signed a two-year extension with the Lakers. This was after the Lakers signed his son to a 4-year contract.
So what likely happened was blackmail: you either sign my son or I am gone. And the Lakers caved in to their best player.

Lakers were swept by the Nuggets in the 2023 playoffs and bounced 4-1 this year. The Timberwolves, Mavs, Thunder are all better teams than the Lakers by a country mile. By succumbing to blackmail and failing to improve the team, the Lakers are consigned to the scrap heat of mediocrity for several years to come. Deservedly so.

Magic Johnson and the Showtime Lakers turned me on to basketball and I followed the team avidly. This continued under Kobe/Shack. This version of the Lakers is putrid and unwatchable

Did you ever consider that the Lakers pitched to LeBron that if he resigned with them they would draft his son?

LeBron is still a difference maker and a great ambassador of the game.

Bronny will end up playing for the South Bay Lakers in the D league next year.

Lebron's I Promise School in Akron is one of the most consequential programs ever undertaken by an athlete. And he is an all around great guy, married to his high school sweetherat and never a whif of scandal. Ever. And not questioning his productivity one bit. But the Lakers with all their glaring defficiencies had no business drafting Bronny.

If the Lakers pitched it to him, then it was nepotism. Plain and simple. If he forced their hand, then it was blackmail. Take your pick

'' Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S. Piazza was drafted by the Dodgers in the 1988 MLB draft as a favor from Tommy Lasorda to Piazza's father. He was the last player selected and signed in his draft class to play in the Major Leagues.''...This worked out fairly well for the Dodgers I would say.

I was turned on to basketball by the not so glamorous Bad Boys Pistons. LBJ was once the best player in the league, he's isn't any more. In the last three seasons he's gone zippo vs The Joker.

Why so serious.

As for the Kobe/Shaq era...

To put it into perspective, last years 55 pick signed a non-guaranteed two-way contract for $559,782.

As much as I like basketball, I fucking hate LeBron. His kid shouldn't even be in the league, let alone have a guaranteed 4-year roster spot deal..

You can take a flyer when you have 20+ rounds in a draft.

The Lakers have been turned into a joke by the Joker. And then they sign Bronny who is coming off a heart problem to a 4-year guaranteed contract. He wouldnt have a sniff anywhere if his father wasnt Lebron

His school is poor and was only done so he wouldn't be accused of abandoning of Cleveland twice.

And he cheats on his wife. It just doesn't make it to mainstream.

LeBron has gotten coaches fired and players traded. This was all him. They even gave his son a rookie deal that only first round picks get.If this was the Lakers idea LeBron would know better that his son is not NBA ready plus has a health condition.
