breaking news terbites, breaking news
Brock University was briefly locked down following what police are calling a "serious assault" on its campus Thursday night.
Niagara Regional Police were called to the school around 8 p.m. Brock Campus Security tweeted it was investigating an incident at Village Residence, located on the southwest end of campus.
Media relations officer for Niagara Police Phil Gavin said officers with the St. Catharines district initially responded to reports of a shooting. They arrived to find three people injured.
Two of those hurt suffered stab wounds and one person appeared to have been shot by a pellet gun. All were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Gavin tweeted.
Four suspects were seen fleeing the campus in a vehicle.
Following speculation online about a possible "active shooter" on campus, Niagara police tweeted to dispel the rumours.
