As for comments on Britney, I think she's like Johnny Bravo from the Brady Bunch, she has made it because she "fit the threads, man", and that comment on "threads" is much more appropriate nowadays! Not that I'm complaining, because I do think she's hot, I'd bang her in a second.
As for SNL, I think it's just the natural evolution of a television show. Let's think back 25 or 30 years and SNL was cutting edge television, and that's why they had cutting edge punk/rock bands on there, hell, they even had the Hip on there even though Ackroyd probably had lots to do with that. But now it's not really cutting edge television, so in order to keep the masses watching they have to have huge guest hosts and just as huge musical acts. You won't see too many fresh new bands on there unless someone has some pull to get them on. Doesn't everyone remember when David Letterman was cutting edge, when they got really cool bands on there more often than they do now, when Dave didn't care who he pissed off and was a little mean to guests? That's because he was the antithesis to Johnny Carson, cutting edge, and he didn't compete with that same audience. Now he does directly, and haven't we seen a kinder, gentler Dave, with fewer new cutting edge bands? The only thing keeping some new bands going there is Paul, and even then, he's getting old.
Anyway, I have to agree, SNL for the most part does suck, but I think any show that is one for that length of time is going to eventually suck. I can only think of a handful of shows that were on longer than 5 years that didn't suck, and even then. We are a fickle audience, we want something new, or at least repackage the same old shit differently.
