RAF fighter jets are escorting a Pakistan Interntional Airlines aircraft from Manchester to Stansted Airport.

Anyone hear any more on this?????

its on the ground but no communication yet with cockpit....which is strange.,....cus why were the fighters dispatched...who ordered them in the air?

Cnn just reported the same...and their one of many analyst just siad it could be anything from a drunken passeger to a full blown terrorist incident...and with what happened a few days ago...I'm guessin they arent takin any chances...
funny how it was heading in country and then did a hard left and went to a more isolated airport

A passenger who had just got off the plane told the BBC the pilot had informed passengers after landing that he had diverted to Stansted because of threats. The passenger, named by the BBC as Mr Munsif, said two men had been handcuffed on board and removed.

"We landed safely and then he announced that they had some kind of threat from someone and that's why he landed the plane," the passenger said, speaking by telephone.

Heard that it was two men in their 30's or 40's who were pounding on the cockpit door.

For those wondering, Stansted airport was built around a runway used in WWII for long, heavy bomber runs - the runway is over 3km long. There are areas convenient to the runway which are well away from the terminal and from other activities - ideal for handling situations which require isolation. As a result, Stansted is designated as the aiport of choice for terrorist incidents - whenever an aircraft is under threat within UK airspace it will be diverted to Stansted if possible.
