"Prosecutor Rejects Charging Polygamists" reads the headline. I'm curious. Who are these folks?

1) Do they properly water and feed their wives and children?
2) Do they beat their wives and kids and kick the dog?
3) Do they steal from their neighbours?
4) Do they shoot their neighbours?
5) Are they self-sufficient or do they live off your taxes?

If anyone ever had any slight thought that polygamy might be a good idea (like I did), just watch the HBO series Big Love. It is about a family in Utah with three wives. What a nightmare, every time I watch I swear I would never thing of it again.

I was just wondering if these polygamists are decent human beings. Or, does being a polygamist make them horrible people? (Disclosure: I would not be interested in that lifestyle as I would find it a major challenge to manage with just one wife (female).)

On the show, it is very unappealing. The husband is a two-faced hypocrite, he uses pompous religious dogma to justify whatever he wants, it is not exactly hedonistic, it is very structured. There is no girl-girl action at all, he rotates between the wives on a strict schedule. The senior wife is pure evil, I despise her. She is always trying to manipulate the husband, organize the wives against the husband then backstab them, knock the other wives to the husband, things like that. The other two wives are ok, but they do a lot of gossiping and politicing. I think that one wife and a mistress or two would work better for me.

Ok, this is my last post on the subject. Promise. (NO, I do not have more than one wife.)

"B.C. Reaches Settlement In Polygamy Case" reads the headline. Apparently, the B.C. government has decided to live and let live.

The B.C. government has also narrowed the mandate of the Human Rights tribunal so that it can rule only on personal complaints and not 3rd party complaints. Hopefully, this will keep busybodies from poking their noses where they don't belong.

Wow! I thought I was watching that show, but I guess I wasn't. I get a totally different view of the whole thing.

Hi,
I hate that show. What is weird is that they tried to play it as a drama. I though it would be a comedy like Weeds. I love Weeds.

I might rotate them once in a while for variety, but usually I'd have the wives focusing on their specialties.

One would shop/cook/fix me drinks, the second would clean/walk the dog/mow the lawn, the third would be for sucking/fucking/playing scrabble.

In many (perhaps most) polygamist communities, girls are forced into marriages against their will while still in their early teens, usually to men several times their age. Girls are taught to believe from the time they are toddlers that this is God's will and that if they do not devote their lives to serving their husband, they will go to hell.

Polygamists are rarely prosecuted in the United States because in the U.S. offices such as District Attorney and Sheriff are elected offices. In polygamist communities, it is the polygamists themselves who vote people into these positions (with women voting as they are told to do by their husbands).

I suppose that it is a matter of opinion. Do you find Bill and Barb to be sympathetic characters? Do you envy Bill's lifestyle?

I find Barb and the third wife sympathetic. The second wife is totally wacked. I find Bill interesting it that for such an intelligent person he believes in the early Mormon belief that having more wives will get you to heaven faster. I think the Mormon religion is strange and the show is an interesting look at one of its offshoots.
I don't envy his lifestyle. One wife is one wife too many.
I also don't think the show is too realistic as far as Bill and his wives. I believe most polygamists you will find today are like those shown as living in the compound.

My believe that if you're going to have polygamy, it should go both ways... the women should be free to have more than one guy. I don't think their faith allows for that. It's just a fallback to the tribal origins Judeao-Christian faith.
