I see that Carolyn Bennett dropped out of the federal Liberal leadership race today, and is the second also-ran to throw support behind Bob Rae.

I'm afraid to ask... does Bob Rae actually have a chance at winning this thing?

I think he's the front runner, he'd be Jack Layton's worst nightmare and draw many from the NDP.
Carolyn's support means a lot.

I don't think he has much of a chance. Ignatieff will probably take it I would think. Bob Rae lost a lot of support here in Ontario after his term as Premier. Can't imagine that he has that much support within the general population these days. Couldn't be any less exciting of a race than it is now.

Between Oakville and Oshawa
Bob Rae is best guy for the job. He's a Rhode scholar, a very skilled communicator and he can draw enough of the NDP support to all but eliminate the NDP. And unlike Harper, he's smart enough to position himself in the center and draw in moderate conservatives and liberals alike. Of course he has his baggage, but in all fairness to him David Peterson called an early election because he knew a recession was on the way and Ontario's finances were a mess, and Rae inherited that mess. Aside from that, Rae has had a very succesful life away from politics. All Harper has done outside of politics is hide behind his computer and send nasty emails on behalf of extreme right wing conservatives.

Harper, though a straight shooter is a stuborn sucky baby who goes to sleep at night wishing he was American. Alot of his strategy is going to back fire unless he learns to sugar coat his policies, but he seems to stubborn to do that. When you consider the seriousness of the sponsorship scandal, anybody have won the last election in Canada. The liberals all but handed Harper the election and all he could do was get a slim minority? If you ask me that's pathetic. In the end Harper will lose regardless of who's leading the liberals. Canada just wasn't made for him.

If Rae does win, what kind of support will he get from the Ontario liberal?.I normally vote liberal federally, however I would not vote liberal if the party was led by him.As a premier he was almost as clueless as the current premier. I think Rae would be overwhelmed if he he ever became prime minister. I hope neither Rae nor Ignatieff win. There isn't a candidate that generates a lot of positive excitement.

If Rae loses this time, will he reinvent himself once more as a conservative? Liberals know they're in trouble when a former NDP'er is the frontrunner to be their leader. Wonder if Pink Floyd will be the new finance minister?

I'm a fan of Harper because he sticks to his guns. He doesn't change his mind because a particular poll suggests he will gain 5% if he changes his stance. Is Rae someone who wishes he was European?

Liberals wouldn't have a problem with people switching from the NDP, Pierre Trudeau was a long time CCF supporter and activist.
Rae was always pragmatic, not a hard lefty, the unions let him down when he was Premier which caused him to rethink his politics.

Pierre Trudea was more left than Rae. In fact, he would have been a member of the Communist party if it could have got him elected. People don't seem to have a problem with pols switching party's as long as they can get elected.

Rae was always too center for the NDP, even at the time, he was seen that way. Many in his party didn't agree with him and many of his personal policy idea got sidelined. It was predicted at about the time that he stopped being Premier, people wer mentioning his name with the federal liberals.

That doesn't make any sense. There's no way anyone could be positioned to take the left wing NDP votes and also moderate Liberals and Conservatives.

Have we all forgot about Rae Days?
It would be suicide for the party to elect him as leader, even though you could argue he is the most intelligent of the lot.

Do you recall what Rae Days actually were? Why would these people, most of them conservative leaning, have a problem with Rae Days?

Some of them probably look back fondly to Rae sticking it to public employees.

edited to add: And that also goes for the Liberals, who are these days mostly conservatives without a backbone.

Rae strikes me as a conscientious and serious guy. I would rather see him in charge of the Liberals than any of the other contenders.

This has to be the biggest bunch of garbage I've ever read so far on TERB. When you consider the Islamic extremist and conspiricy theorists on here, that's saying something!

All of it total crap..........
