As the Chicago Blackhawks wait on the arbiters decision on Niemi they have announced that there will be a 20% raise in ticket prices. Despite winning the Cup and record crowds, the team lost money.

But financially the team was a loser.

Exactly how much money was lost is something team executives will not discuss.

From what I read, debt payments accumulated over the last 12 years caused the red ink.

if it were calculated on 09/10 alone, they did very well.

The state of Illinois is bankrupt too, the ticket increase could be a tough sell, hockey is still a fringe sport in most US cities and can very easily fall back into obscurity.

It's still fairly strong in Chicago. The Original Six cities haven't wavered too much in their support.
