The CNN newscasters were talking about the effect Hurricane Gustav is going to have on the Republican convention. One woman drops a bombshell that left me shaking my head.

She says the convention needs to have a "change in tone" due to the hurricane since normally the conventions are fun, lively, spirited events. But with a crisis looming, this liveliness needs to be toned down.

IS THE U.S. NOT AT FUCKING WAR IN IRAQ RIGHT NOW?!?!?!

A fucking hurricane and they need to "change the tone" but Americans dying on an almost daily basis in battle and no problemo with that.

Fucking bizarre.

It's the perpetual WAR culture/mentality the GOP has created in the USA!
They look at the world through a peculiar perverse 'looking glass'!....

I almost wonder if the powers that be downplay the war so they don't put the country on a "war footing" (i.e., rationing, the draft, etc.), which would surely bring the war in Iraq to a swift end. It's "business as usual" unless you or someone you know is directly involved in the war.

All that being said, I'm not wholly against the war in Iraq. It may have been unjustified but I think the US should now clean up the mess they created.

I'm sure it probably was since they didn't have a hurricane to worry about. They're no different than the Republicans.

Bush and Cheney aren`t going to show up too. It`s not because of the hurricane, although they are going to so some sort of fake religious based sympathy attempt, it`s to get money laundered out of that Georgia/Russian war that Cheney visited recently (for no reason, politically, I might add).

Isn`t Gustov a Russian name too?

The Iraq "war" is not treated like a war in any meaningful way. They have not raised taxes, there have been no sacrifices for anyone, other than those actually fighting and their loved ones. It is really an occupation more than a war, they do not really have any objectives, they just want it to settle down so they can go home. It is like the "war" on drugs, they have not really committed to it, it is just something that is going on.

I heard a startling fact the other day. If you divided up the money spent on Iraq amongst each and every American (man, woman, and child), it works out to something like $3,600.

Imagine telling each and every American to cut a cheque for that.

The US would be cutting and running faster than you can say, "Meep Meep!"
