This was just a matter of time andI am surprised it had taken this long. By welcoming her back into the country she sealed her fate. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer...

I'll admit i'm a bit ignorant of the complete political picture in Pakistan but i've heard her speak and i knew genuine compassion and intelligence when i saw it.

It's just sad how figures like this is are snuffed out for political gain.

Benazir Bhutto was a very intelligent women, as well as very attractive (at least when she was young).
A friend of mine dated her for a while, when they both attended Cambridge University.

In the West, we believe that democracy is the only legitimate way to govern a country. But the number of people who die every time there is an election on the sub-continent make you wonder is some countries are simply not ready for it.

Oh yeah, real sad. Don't fall for it!
After she and her family steal billions of dollars and from a dirt poor country for 30 years and stashes it away in Switzerland, I guess the accounts were running low so it was time to return home and get some more.
Just another corrupt "politician" .

One less corrupt politician in Pakistan. She attended Oxford not Cambridge.

A link to a credible article would make this more than just a wild, unsubstantiated accusation.

She is being hailed as a martyr against Al Qaeda by the idiot GWBush and the US gov't tonight on the news. No surprise that they would use this woman's assassination for political purposes.

The terrorist groups just got one step closer to getting their hands on Pakistan's Nuclear arsenal.

Perhaps it is time for Dubya to 'spread some of his brand of Freedom & Democracy' to Pakistan, since it seems his plans of War with Iran have hit a brick wall.
Bet the neocons and MIC will insist on sending our troops to Pakistan...

Sadness but not unexpected...

It's true that her family's past is not spotless, however it is also true she knew that her life was in danger more than once yet she persisted in her belief.

It isn't that she knew that death wasn't coming, it was perhaps her hope that her death, or even anyone's who stood for an alternative, might spark the type of change that is required in these types of governments.

Will we know what to look for in a martyr for the west?

I have always maintained that the greatest "real" threat to us is the instability in Pakistan combined with their nuclear arsenal. I have never believed the rhetoric about Iran, North Korea, and obviously Iraq, ever being a threat to us. I am not sure if sending Dubya to 'spread some of his brand of Freedom & Democracy' to Pakistan, is the solution, but something needs to be done before some radical group acquires these weapons and points them towards Canada.

It really wouldn't matter if that were true. It's a catastrofuck any way you cut it.

Education and personal life

Benazir Bhutto was born in Karachi, Dominion of Pakistan on 21 June 1953.

After completing her early education in Pakistan, she pursued her higher education in the United States. From 1969 to 1973 she attended Radcliffe College, and then Harvard University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in comparative government.[11] She was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa.[10]

The Post Graduate, phase of her education took place in the United Kingdom. Between 1973 and 1977 Bhutto studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. She completed a course in International Law and Diplomacy while at Oxford.[12] In December 1976 she was elected president of the Oxford Union, becoming the first Asian woman to head the prestigious debating society.[10]
