After reading Champ's quoting of that great line from Warren Zevon's "Werewolves Of London:
"I saw Lon Chaney drinking a Pina Collada at Trader Vick's ... his hair was perfect ".

...it got me to thinking about how many really great lines like that there are in songs.

Some that pop to mind...

"He said 'Uhhh, I don't think so...She kinda funny'......I said 'I know........Everybody funny' ".
George Thoroghgood - One Bourbon, One Scotch & One Beer

or...

"...But she never lost her head, even when she was giving head"
Lou Reed - Take A Walk On The Wild Side

or...

"My eyes keep me in trouble. I want every woman I see.
David Wilcox - My eyes keep me in trouble

For timing and meter:
"And if it please Your Highness, on a sunny day sometime, can I take your picture in the park with silk and satin on?"
Burton Cummings - Star Baby.

For content:
"I'm a pretty good cook, I'm sittin' on my groceries. Come home with me honey, I'll show you my best recipes!"
Joni Mitchell - Raised on Robbery

"Creep" - Radiohead

I wish I was special
You're so fuckin' special
But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.

I don't care if it hurts
I want to have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul
I want you to notice
When I'm not around
You're so fuckin' special
I wish I was special

But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.

"Where Did It All Go Wrong" - Oasis

Do you keep the receipts
For the friends that you buy
And ain't it bittersweet
You were only just getting by

But I hope you know
That it won't let go
It sticks around with you until the day you die
And I hope you know That it's touch and go
I hope the tears don't stain the world that waits outside
Where did it all go wrong?

"Roll It Over" - Oasis

I can give a hundred million reasons
To build a barricade
I blame it on the changing of the seasons
The thoughts that I've conveyed

Does it make it all right?
It doesn't make it all right

To roll it over my soul and leave me here
Roll it over my soul and leave me here

Look around at all the plastic people
Who live without a care
Try to sit with me around my table
But never bring a chair

And in your head do you feel
What you're not supposed to feel
You take what you want
But you won't get it for free
You need more time
Cos your thoughts and words won't last forever more
But I'm not sure if it ever works out right
But it's ok. It's all right

Will it ever, ever, ever work out right?
Cos it never, never, never works out right

"Supersonic" - Oasis

I need to be myself
I can't be no one else
I'm feeling supersonic
Give me gin and tonic
You can have it all but how much do you want it?
You make me laugh
Give me your autograph
Can I ride with you in your BMW ?
You can sail with me in my yellow submarine
You need to find out
'Cos no one's gonna tell you what I'm on about
You need to find a way for what you want to say
But before tomorrow
'Cos my friend said he'd take you home
He sits in a corner all alone
He lives under a waterfall
No body can see him
No body can ever hear him call
You need to be yourself
You can't be no one else
I know a girl called Elsa
She's into Alka Seltzer
She sniffs it through a cane on a supersonic train
She made me laugh
I got her autograph
She done it with a doctor on a helicopter
She's sniffin in her tissue
Sellin' the Big Issue
She needs to find out
'Cos no one's gonna tell you what I'm on about
She needs to find a way for what she wants to say
But before tomorrow
'Cos my friend said he'd take you home
He sits in a corner all alone
He lives under a waterfall
No body can see him
No body can ever hear him call

hehe...I suppose I should add:

"Countin' flowers on the wall that don't bother me at all.
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of 51.
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo.
Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do!"

Haven't heard that in years. Great lyric.

Young woman, share your fire with me. My heart cold, my soul is free. I am a stranger in your land, understand, they call me SAND.

Some lyrics that moved me, and still do.

Here are the words from the song " Something changed" , performed by the UK band " Pulp",

I wrote this song / two hours before we met
I didn't know your name / or what you looked like yet
Oh , I could have stayed at home / and gone to bed
I could have gone to see / a film / instead
You might have changed your mind and seen your friends
Life could have been very different but then
something changed

Do you believe / that there's someone / up above?
And does he have / a timetable / directing acts of love?
Why did I write this song / on that one day?
Why did you touch my hand / and softly say

"Stop asking questions that don't matter anyway
Just give us a kiss to celebrate here today
something changed?"

When we woke up that morning we had no way of knowing
that in a matter of hours we change the way we were going
Oh / where would I be now?
Where would I be now if we never met?
Would I be singing this song to someone else instead?
I don't know but like you just said

something changed.

Words from a beautiful Cuban love song " Desatino" , by the local Cubano group "Puentes Brothers"
The music reminds me of Varadero everytime I play it. The video was on rotation at Much More Music. Here is the translation:

I couldn't exist
Without first saying
What you bring out in me

This river of honey
That runs along your skin
And seduces my mouth
My voice leaves me
Faced with this pure love
Which turns my world upside down

And I can't resist the temptation
To love you any night, in any place
The more that opposes destiny
Our love will live on

I could not exist
Without mentioning us
Without finding a way to hold you close
And every sunrise
I would give you a star

My voice abandons me
And if God hears me
He will be my witness

That nobody will love you as I have
That my heart can no longer take this pain
But the more opposes destiny
Our love will live on

Nowhere
"I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok..."

"Life's a piece of shit; when you think of it..."

Hard not to get a smile when you think about those little Monty Python skits -- great for reminding yourself not to take things so seriously.

Never the safest place
"I'm after rebellion... I'll settle for lies."

"Joan Crawford has risen from the grave."

"Hitler's on the phone from Berlin, says I'm gonna make you a star."

I was never sure what most 1970s Blue Öyster Cult songs were really about, except for maybe "Then Came The Last The Last Days of May", a cheerful, supposedly true tale of three young guys getting lured into the middle of nowhere and murdered for their drug money.

BTW - I think the "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" line is something Gloria Steinem said long before U2 put it in a song.

The first one that comes to mind is:

Sure like to wish you well
But I pray to God, you go to hell.

"Go to Hell" by Drill

hdog, the Metallica remake is "So What". The original artist is a band called the Anti Nowhere League.

From Steven Tyler of Aerosmith "Don't give me no lip I've got enough of my own".

And not from a song, but from a sign on the door of his tour bus - Tim McGraw says "if I wanted any of your lip, I would open my zipper".

Timbs for my hooligans in brooklyn
Dead right, if they head right, biggie there air nike

Do something to us, talk goes through us
Girls walk to us, wanna do us, screw us
Who us? yeah, poppa and puff
Close like starsky and hutch, stick the clutch
Dare I squeeze three in your cherry m-3
Bang every mc easily, busily
Recently niggaz frontin ain’t sayin nuttin
