Remy's and Hemingway's in Yorkville.
The Bedford Acadamy on a street north of U of T.
There are several places in the Beaches on Queen St east of Woodbine in the east end.

The Centre of the Universe!
The Pilot, on Cumberland...excellent rooftop patio!

Madison Ave Pub, on Madison, one block east of Spadina, north of Bloor. Large University clientele, but great rooftop patios.

Hemingway's in Yorkville, as previously mentioned, is also good!

Another advantage to visiting Yorkville is if you like star(as in Hollywood) gazing. I saw James Woods and a couple others I recognized from TV but could not put a name to the face.

I think it's the Hyatt that has a nice rooftop bar
The Hyatt has a small patio on the roof. There is usually a bit of a wait. Pricey.

The Manulife has an amazing patio/deck where you get a good view of the city from the 51st floor. It's open 7 days with a night club feel to the inside club.

Globe Bistro has a nice, intimate patio that is perfect for a date but serves only appetizers. (Broadview and Danforth)

Allen's on Danforth has a great patio if you want to eat upscale pub fare and enjoy a pint.

The Black Bull on Queen West has a great patio for Queen St east people watching and beer drinking.

There is a club named Reign that has a nice patio. It's on Peter.

Or try to get into Ultra patio. The line up is fierce unless you are prepared to drop bucks on bottle service. It's a prentenious crowd but filled with drunk young chicks.

for west enders

or the Drake on Queen W has a great back patio. Sunday afternoons are best as I recall wasting several Sundays listening roots reggae, having great conversations, and enjoying the eye candy.

I hate sidewalk patios (back and rooftop are fine). I can never understand how people can stuff their faces inches away from pedestrians and mere feet away from toxic spewing cars. Plus, they clutter up the sidewalks:( and reduce space for cyclists. End of rant (for now).

Since I assume you mean Toronto, the new 3rd and 4th floor patios in the new construction just north of Yonge and Dundas are pretty sweet. If I were in Toronto, I could tell you what the bars were called. But since I'm not, I get to look like an idiot instead.
