I looked at the Grammy nominations list for the first time in 10 years and they keep getting more and more ridiculous.

The Grammys have always been pretty pathetic. How can an award show honouring musical accomplishment nominate people like Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Creed, Nickel Back ....... It's basically an award show for one-hit wonders.

My favs for 2002:

Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
Sonic Youth - Murray Street
Liars - They Threw Us in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top
Hot Snakes - Suicide Invoice
The Streets - Original Pirate Material

OK.....so now I know I'm out of touch . Never heard of any of your fav's JD ( are they first realeases ?) but I agree with your comments on Britney et al ( technically she has had more than 1 hit but they all follow pretty much the same musical formula ) .

Nora Jones - best slow screwing cd of the year . Should be a new category - lol.

my all time best CD for sex:

MCMXC A.D. by Enigma.

The whole CD has the perfect mood and flow. The ladies just dig it.

Ah, yes, The Grammies

Out of the spotlight, out of the television show, hidden in the small print: The winner for Best Blues Record: Solomon Burke ("Don't Give Up On Me").

My record of the year, the Record of the Year for Mojo Magazine in the UK, and Sara's record of the year over at Roommates. Just ask her!

Did you ever notice that no matter what music you have playing during sex, after awhile you just get so wrapped up in the other person (literaly and figuratively) that you don't even hear it anymore?? I've noticed it a few times.

Grammy's are a waste of time

There are so many categories now. Most of the artists that were nominated don't have an original thought in their head. Grammy's are a farce.

Dr., I agree. Once the engines are hot and full speed ahead, the music fades way back in the background, if the music is right for you that is.

BTW, the CD from Nora Jones, thumbs up !

Interpol's record is their first LP I think. They're basically Joy Division with better guitar work and a lot more reverb.

Sonic Youth's been around since the early 80's. 'Murray Street' is their ump-teenth release and their best one in a long time. If the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame has any credibility at all, these guys will be inducted within the next 5 years.

The Hot Snakes album is their second. It's a straight out Rock album with elements of surf and CCR. It's brilliant how they can Rock out playing clean chords.

The Liars album is their debut. The album is a combination of noise-pop, dance, funk, punk with attitude.

I'll add a kudos to Interpol. Great album they put out. How about BRMC (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), the dears, The Divine Comedy, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Morcheeba etc, etc.

The point,

Tons of great bands have put out albums this year. Most are better than what were nominated for and won Grammys. Some of these bands even put out albums that are nowhere near as good as their previous outings and still beat the Grammy winners of this year.

This thread's starter is absolutely correct. All the Grammys do is provide a marketing spectical to attempt to coerse you into buying albums by people with little or no musical talent but tons of fluff media (FM radio included) appeal.

Don't get me started on FM radio! FM radio is not something to listen to if you're looking for creative and inspiring music.

Yep it sucks to have to make sure you have CDs in the car all the time because Radio makes you want to puke.

One album that I really enjoyed but didn't get much notice was "Dreamland" by Robert Plant (former front man for Led Zeppelin)
The Hey Joe cover on that album was incredible!
