As Monty said, cable can be much faster than an ASDL phone line... My experience with it ?? I'm on cable with Rogers.. At 3.30 P.M. , when every kid on the block is MSD'ing and downloading... It can be slower than Bell. The rest of the time, it screams along just fine.. With a wireless "N" router, my laptop exceeds 1 meg a second download speed if the site can spit it out that quick..
that being said.. Somewhere along the line, My " all you can eat " ultimate high speed turned into a 60 gig a month limit before encuring charges.. They warn you when you hit 45 gigs ( combination of downloaded and uploaded ),,, Maybe Rogers attempt to make you rent movies instead of downloading them... LOL..
You might want to try, before you switch, to see what your max download speed is. If a main site, like Windows update, shows that you are at a meg a second, but sites you usually use are slower, it may indicate that the "hold up" is with the internet itself, not your provider. If you can, try downloading from a particular site and note the speed, then ask a buddy who is on cable to do the same.. see if there is a difference..
I'm not that familiar with ASDL on bell, but on Rogers Cable, the speed is dependent on trhe package you buy.. Get light or ultra light and you won't get the same speed as the ultimate..
Hope that helped..
