Anyone know if it is possible to get out of a contract with Mobility? Last X-mas I made the mistake of using what I thought were simple 'upgrade credits' to get two new phones and then came to the realization that in invoking those credits I signed up for a new 3 year contract, (contract had ended for nearly a year before I did this).

Given this talk of new cell phone companies and the fact that the new structure at Bell seems to suggest that they will be squeezing every nickel out of us I'd like to investigate the penalty involved in dropping the service if I decide it makes sense.

Usually the penalty to get out of the contract is to pay the base cost of the contract left (ie. if it's $50 month base it will be $50 x number of months left).

way out in left field
Each provider is different but some do charge for the reduced cost of the phone and some charge you the difference between the discounted monthly rate that you got when you signed the contract and what the non-discounted rate should have been x the number of months of the contract.

For eg: if your rate should have been $50.00 per month over 24 months and you were only paying $25.00 per month over 24 months your "buyout" would be something like $25.00 per month x 24 months or $600.00.

The best bet would be to call them and ask......

It's my understanding that if you move (home or business) and the phone doesn't work in that area, they'll let you out. My new place is in the boonies and I have really marginal service. I spoke to them about it and they suggested that this was possible, although I haven't done it since I just call forward...

Maybe if you have a friend who lives in the country where there's crap service, you could change your address there and see what happens!

they all have contract cancelation fees written into the contract, it won't save you much if any money.
