Now that spring is upon us, and it's BBQ season, I'm looking to get my BBQ cleaned and have it looking like new. I've heard there are places/services that will come clean your BBQ.

Does anyone know of any of these services and if they're worth it?

Found one place on the net, they start at 200.00 plus tax. Seems hefty for a BBQ I only paid $550.00 for.

Yup, that time of year again. I’ve been grilling all through the winter then I clean mine in the spring and again end of summer. Ive always done it myself, I don’t relish the task as it takes a good couple of hours and I need to prepare properly to avoid the mess. I’m not sure how a BBQ cleaning service would work, would they do a home visit or would you take the bbq to them? The latter would be a huge hassle as my grill is quite big.

Personally, I rather clean it myself. That way I will know that there is no caustic residue from chemical cleaners or any brass bristles left on the grill. When you are done cooking on the grill or smoker put a pan of water in it to steam it up, that way it is easier to clean the grill. I have a Akorn kamado smoker and a regular gas smoker. The Akorn kamado grill is great for BBQ, and smoking. The gas smoker is good for keeping food warm or for long smoking.

$200 is about the going rate for that service.
I know someone who used that service, and was real happy with the result. A very thorough cleaning.
He had a good BBQ that has lasted him for years, and he has no intention on replacing it.
If you only paid $550 for yours, it may not be worth hiring someone to clean it.

It is a lot of work to do a good job. I have a $1,400 Napolean and take care of it. It is 11 years old and looks and works great. My BBQ before that was also a Napolean, its 21 years old and still going strong at the cottage.

On the BBQ subject. Nothing wrong with the wire grill cleaners, just spend a little more and get a good one. People complain about the wire coming off...and this is what happens when you buy a $6 brush made in China. Never ever had a problem with a good quality wire grill brush.

Talking about BBQs, I have to replace the heat shields on mine. I see they have online a porcelain coated one and a stainless steel one, which one is better? The price is about the same.

GTA & Thereabouts...
Who does not clean their own BBQ? What's next? Shoveling your snow? Mowing your grass? Fucking your wife?

Jeez...

As for the wire grille cleaners... I'm moving away from them as I don't trust the quality in much lately. I'd never forgive myself if someone I know ate that shit.

If you look at the link I posted, I found a place that does for 85 bucks. I definitely won't spend $200.00. My BBQ is a pretty good BBQ. Would be worth closer to $800.00 but it's only 3 burners with no side burner. I a bachelor so 3 burners was enough cooking space for me, and didn't need the side burner as my kitchen is about 10 feet from BBQ. Regardless, I still only paid $550.00

I'm pretty happy with my Broil King, but I have to be honest, whenever I see the Napolean commercials, I kind of wish I had of got a Nopolean...lol.

Lot's of people don't clean there own BBQ. The only reason I found out people get this done, is because I was talking about cleaning mine after one of my softball games last year and a bunch of guys on my team told me they just paid for this service. I'm not sure you understand how good of a job some of these places do. When they're done, you BBQ looks brand new.

I had the misfortune of eating a burger at a friend's house that had a wire bristle in it. Luckily, it impaled my gums back by my molars rather than piercing my stomach or gut, but it still wasn't a pleasant experience. And has made me very wary of wire grill brushes.

Ive never understood this because when I'm grilling, I can see clearly everything on my grill, and would see if one of the bristles was on the grill.

I came close to leaving wire bristles in my BBQ food once. Nearly served it to my family. Never again.
You can get a wooden scraper paddle that is meant to replace your wire grill brushes. Costco's in GTA has them for about 20 bucks, but they're on limited-time availability. I've been using mine for a few years now. I'll never use a wire brush ever again. Google "wooden bbq scraper" if you don't know what I'm talking about. Highly recommended.
I store it inside the cabinet under my BBQ, and I think it'll last me forever.

Every 2-3 years I replace the burner shields, every 5 the burners (all less than $75). In between I put them in the oven and set it to self clean, works like a charm. That only leaves the box to clean.

If you mean the 'Flavorizer' angled burner covers on a Weber, the stainless ones are supposed to last longer - I've had the stainless ones on my weber for 9 years and they haven't burned through yet.

Their main job is to keep drippings out of the burner holes so even if they look ugly, as long as they aren't riddled with holes you can keep using yours
