As much as I'm sick to death of politics , elections , leadership races etc a look at what is going on in the Federal Liberal party must be sending waves of nausea through the party faithful.

Broke, disorientated and without direction the party will be electing a new leader in 5 months and the campaigning has begun. The best candidates, Tobin, McKenna and Manley have declined to run leaving the daunting prospect of, God forbid, Bob Rae or Mike Iggy.

BB and slowpoke you really need to do something - this is getting serious. You were the guys that were saying how much depth the Liberals have. Well guess what? You better find it in a hurry because with either of these two in charge you are in for an even uglier ride than you had the last time.

Rae is not credible outside of Toronto and Iggy is, quite frankly, a bigger prick than even Harper is. He's not a team player and will become quickly disliked by the public.

Someone needs to beg McKenna or Manley but I guess they don't feel they have the ear of whichever back room group is pulling the strings.

Serious question: Why all the angst about Ignatieff? He's undoubtedly a smart guy and has a world of international experience. Granted, he didn't win any friends when he supported the Iraq war, but the sense I get is that his support wasn't based on ideology, it was based on humanitarian grounds.

I'm not here to support or denigrate him, but I am curious why so many think he'd be a bad choice.

I've had enough electioneering and politics for at least another year.

I don't blame Manley or McKenna. The next Liberal leader will immediately become the focus of $millions worth of attack ads - probably for the 3 or 4 years leading up to the next election. Hit-man Harper has taken politics to such a new low that very few people (or their families) could tolerate the constant slime tactics that are Harper's specialty. So the next Liberal leader will be forced to use the same shitty tactics just to survive. And you think Iggy is a prick? Show me how he could be anywhere near as toxic as your buddy Harper.

Ignatieffs foreign or international experiance is from Harvard where he taught for the last couple of decades.

The general take on the guy is he is very smart and he will, let you know it. Think Steven HArper with a tooth ach. The big problem with hi is a lot of people in the Liberal party really don't like him. They then take a look at Bob Rea and think there goes Ontario. Most of the other viable candidates stepped away because of the cost and the conditions to run. Rea and Iggy also kept their networks active following the last leadership vote, there's a vote of confidence in the currant leader for you. Who ever wins is going to have 8-10 years of rebuilding to do. The same as the tories did following Mulrooneey.

The Liberals are in big trouble, that's for sure. Their only hope was McKenna but he's not biting (can you blame him?).

If Rae gets it, kiss Ontario good bye, it will give Harper his majority.

Iggy? he may be smart but he's tough to warm up to.

Oh well.....LOL

Maybe you should run slowpoke.

At 50K a pop, get about 300 of your friends to run too. It should solve the war chest probelm.

The lieberal "running of the rats" is already shaping up to be a major chuckle fest. Maybe Pekker should throw his "chapeau" in the ring.

it will be fun watching them waste valuable money and time gazing at their navels for a few months before the convention cluster-fu*k.

This is just too funny.

It may seem funny to you, but the sad reality is that Canadians seem to think that the only alternative is Stephen Harper and his CONservatives. Unfortunately he will have free reign for at least six months, and probably longer.

Lets hope so.:)

He's had a free reign the past 2 years.

Thanks to the "depth" of the Liberal party, it will be more than 6 months longer. If Bob Rae wins, 6 years longer.

Don't worry, it could be worse. The Liberals could actually have someone worthy of voting for. Thats when the shit hits the fan.

Iggy may be tough to warm up to but Harper isn't exactly Mr Chuckles either. I haven't bothered to learn much about Iggy but anyone can see he's got at least as much curb appeal as our electorally challenged Robo-PM. With Harper framed firmly in this current econofuck, Iggy or Rae or LeBlanc could easily look like Santa by the time this is over.....

I doubt many who have lived in Ontario in the last 20 years will ever consider Bob Rae as Santa Clause.

More like the Grinch, I suspect.

FWIW, I warmed up to Harper right away. :D

And yet, Harper still couldn't get a majority government.

5 parties running, splits it up too much.

first we cap the blockheads then enforce the voting requirement regulations, that'll shape things up.

Seems to me that there were five parties when Chretien was around, and he managed to get a majority.

Not with guaranteed Taxpayer money doled out to them based on votes rec'd.

Plus the nutbar greens got high vis credibility when they let the "leader" waddle into the debates.

Our system is such that there are now so many parties each winning some seats such that it is very difficult for one party to get an absolute majority.

Once the voting list rules are tightened up, we will get our majority though, then the fun can begin.

Whether there are 5 parties or 4 (3.5 when you think about it) is a moot point when you only have 2.5 leaders.
