The guys running the company were more interested in hockey than technology. It's very sad.
A lot of people will be out of work and a once great Canadian company seems all but doomed to go broke.
Fucking tragedy.
Yup, even as a dedicated iphone user, its a tragedy for this country and the phone biz. It's very sad.

Perhaps, but there is also a high-tech sector within the Kitchener/Waterloo area distinct from BB (formerly RIM) and I'm certain that some of the laid-off staff can find employment there. It's also the case that many of the laid off people may seek work outside of Ontario or even outside of Canada. That's gonna swamp the Toronto IT labour market with a lot of talented people.
Good time to be an IT manager trying to hire.
Not such a good time to be an IT person seeking work.
Can't disagree with that. The guys running the company were more interested in hockey than technology.
Sooo true & Soooo Sad :frown: I am a proud Canadian & love to see Canadians & Canadian Companies succeed around the WorldCan't disagree with that.
Balsillie (or however you spell that idiot's name) was not the right man for the job. He was simply in the right place at the right time and rode the RIM wave all the way up and then all the way down. He liked playing the big shot, sitting on god knows how many boards, spending all his time on hockey.
Steve Jobs sat on 1 board. Apple. And Jobs never took his eye off of Apple and innovating. It has been said that Jobs was a colossal prick, but you cannot argue what he built.
Ballsillie is just a colossal failure.

I can't be the only one who was thinking 'maybe those SP's were charging too much, if they only offer CBJ'.

That is exactly it. My career was in Silicon Valley, and it takes more than 80 hours a week to keep up with the competition. Can't disagree with that.
