This may seem like a stupid question to many, but it's one I've often pondered (while saving up for escorts and MPs!). If the two apex ocean predators - the killer whale (or orca) and great white shark - ever did battle in the ocean, which would win? (Let's say a one on one battle between a fully grown male great white and a fully grown male orca). I personally think the orca would win.... it's bigger, stronger, and far more intelligent. Also, its blubber would protect it from the great white's devastating bite.

What do other terbites think? Any marine biologists out there???

I know... I desperately need a life. HAve to admit though, it'd be a hell of a fight!

it depends whether the water is cold or warm, the depth of the water,
if the sun is shining, and the direction that the wind is blowing

Tape

Hey Fredrikk....

I'm aware of this tape. Not sure if I'd put too much stock in it, however. If I recall, the great white that was destroyed was only about 10 feet or so. It would be interesting to see if things would have gone the same way if the shark was a fully-grown 16 - 20 footer.

That said, I still think the KW would win. I find killer whales to be the most interesting animals on earth. One minute, you see them in one of those marineland commercials doing tricks and kissing little kids. Then you watch a dicovery channel documentary where you see them mercilessly ripping the head off some sea lion! Interstingly, there is no record of a KW killing a attacking a human in the wild. They say that shark actually don't like the taste of human flesh, and when they attack people its because they mistake them for their regular prey. It's interesting that the Orca manages to avoid this error. The vastly superior intelligence of the latter probably explains that.

Does anyone else remember a late 70s JAWS ripoff entitled ORCA: THE KILLER WHALE starring Richard Harris?
