In the laboratory.
Earlier this year, I watched some of the baseball games that were played in Japan by the Yankees. I noticed that there they had netting extending far along the first and third base sides of the field. Folks in the stands weren't able to catch a ball but, on the other hand, they didn't have to worry about being knocked senseless by a line drive foul.

Tonight I was watching a game and saw a ball go screaming into the stands. No one was hurt but, like hockey, do they have to wait until someone is killed?

Interesting point.

But what about catching a foul ball?? Don't we get to catch foul balls anymore?!

Ah, what the hell, let's just watch on TV.

I think safety nets take away from the experience of the game...I'm not saying it shouldnt be done, but it hasnt been done since the advent of baseball so I dont see it happening anytime soon unless someome dies or something, like the hockey incident which spawned the nets behind the goalies....
