Just wondering if anyone has been to both and would offer any insight into which is better and why.

Background:
This is a family vacation, not looking for any hobby advice.
We'll be doing the all-inclusive resort style vacation (kids' preference, not mine).

If anyone knows of a site that would be a better place to ask this sort of question, please let me know.

Thanks

I made quick stops in both places once as part of a cruise. Both are beautiful places. Barbados is better, but might be a lot more expensive.

I have stayed on both islands.

I prefer St. Lucia, there seems to be more to do and the scenery strikes me as a lot nicer. I don't think you will go far wrong with either one.

I was just in Barbados last week on a non hobby vacation. The island is clean, polite and crime is very very low. While some people feel it is expensive, I found it comparable to a 4 star anywhere in Playa del Carmen. Stay at a resort near the west side of the island like in Carlisle Bay where the water is calm and treat everyone to an afternoon on a catamaran (for a family I recommend a boat named Shasha) that will take you snorkleing with the turtles and then sailing up and down the coast. That captain is great with kids and the family.

Also, treat yourself to a tour of the Harrison Caves.

I would definatly go back.
Thanks Horsecock (I feel really strange saying those words). If it's Barbados, we probably will be on the west side.

Thanks to the others, too.
Any other comments? From what I've learned, Barbados is more expensive but, in the long run, its more about making a memorable vacation for the kids.

Never been to St. Lucia, but supposedly Barbados has the best race relations of any of the Islands (although the BVI's also have a good reputation that way).

Like funny tingle in your pants strange or why am I taking travel advice from a man named Horsecock strange??
More like a feeling that I'm a woman trapped in a man's body and I should be lying in bed, totally exhausted and smoking a cigarette

If you go to Barbados, check out Oistens Fish Fry on Fridays!

If it's anywhere near our resort, I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks. And to Miss Croft for the +1.

St Lucia hands down but it can be a little more expensive.

One of the best resort experiences ever.
Uh, yeah, that's pretty steep. Maybe for me and a lady but the kids can live with more humble accomodations.

Oh yes, make sure you treat you and the little lady to dinner at Champers. The food is way better and quite reasonably priced for quality. Dinner with wine will run you about $200. Don't get suckered into going to The Cliff - the food isn't nearly as good and dinner will be $700.

Have fun, the kids will love snorkling with the turtles! Best $110 I spent on the island for me and one of my gfs for the afternoon.
You're awesome Horsecock! (I feel so gay)
