I plan to go there for a week or less vacation. This is what I want in the package:
1. 4-5 stars hotel with great service and cleanliness of course and allows me to bring girls into my room
2. close to restaurant or good place to eat
3. I'm gonna hobby like crazy there, so yeah close to the place for hobbyist
4. Canadian tourist friendly (asian canadian to be precise)

Do you asian guys know if you asian canadian get the same treatment as the european decent when it comes to hobbying in bangkok?

I dont have anyone to go with, so if anyone is planning to go there this year let me know!

I've been many times. D.S. is right, a week is too short for Thailand. Trip is about 24 hours, and then you need another day or so to get over jet lag, that's a chunk of your time gone right there. Ten days at least is what I'd recommend.

I can answer all your questions, but you'll get much more thorough and up to the minute answers here Do a bit of reading, then if you still have questions, PM me.

I love that you ask about a good place to eat. It's Bangkok!!! You're never more than 50 ft from a GREAT place to eat. ;)

That site reads like an ad. The high lighted advice is laughable.

Surprise surprise, the same rules to good hobbying apply in Thailand as here. Except the Thai girls are so much better at the game.

Hmmm, two identical posts?

Oh, well. Pick up Thai baht at airport ATM. You'll only need 500 bt, which is $15 Cdn. You won't find any use for US or Cdn dollars. Go to exit 4, 2nd level, and get in Public Taxi lineup. (Ignore ALL the touts in the arrivals area. NEVER, ever take their offers. It's three times rate!!!) Get in line, tell attendant what hotel you're going to. She will write it on ticket and give directly to the driver. Make sure he turns on meter. Say "meter". If not, get out. It costs 185-190 baht or less for Sukhumvit, which is where you're going, plus 65 baht for expressway toll. Total: 300 incl tip.

You can get travellers cheques and dollars cashed along Skuhumvit at Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, Siam Commecial Bank and others. But only banks that have ForEx counters.

One week? Not worth it really. As others say, two to three weeks, OK!

okay. according to the book, thai girls are ver possesive. Is that true fellas?
The last thing I want is having a drama or got my dick cut off by Thai girls.
Could it be that bad?

what are the group ages of tourist or i must say hobbyist from around the world in Thailand? The reason I ask is because I'm on my mid to late 20s.

Is there any definete DONT's and DOs that I should know as a foreigner?

Book and Thai forum

1. Buy Thailand Fever. Short, unbeatable book answering questions of westerners and Thai ladies.

2. Research www.thaivisa.com, a straight cultural forum. Go to http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Thailand-Local-Forums-f50.html for basics about Thai culture. There's a lot of whining, so don't bother reading the one line posts. This will keep you busy for weeks.

And frankly, the answers to your questions would fill a book. Just go.

........I was there 10 days ago.
You can just use your ATM card.....ATM's are all over the place.
Get a hotel with a safety deposit box.
Now is low season.....better deals on hotels.

Just GO !......its not Cambodia ....you will be fine.

Right from the outset tell the girls you're a butterfly. Always pick a different chick every night. I had no problems with possessiveness at all.

Group ages - hard to say. The Thais get started early (oh yeah, that's right - Westerners didn't bring hobbying to Thailand) but you'll fit in no problem.

The only thing you have to bring is $$$, an idea of market prices and a fun loving atttitude. Mai Pen Rai - "no big deal" in Thai.

Definite DONTS: always treat any image of the King/national flag reverently. The Thais are very patriotic and you can get jailed for tearing a dollar bill, stamping on the King's picture...etc.

The head is also sacred. So don't tap their head, place your feet on head pillows, etc.

Buddhist monks are revered as well, and they're a powerful part of Thai society. Treat them with respect.

Good tips. Except I would carry bit more Baht for local fun & food, especially food stalls sample the fresh & exotic. Plenty of good food everywhere. Look for busy spots. No hassle being Asian.

If you prefer to get some Baht ahead of time, I recommend
http://www.guardianfx.com/exchange_cad.html

There's some political protest so may want to keep tab on area to avoid crowds. Thai people are gentle by nature, so nothing to worry about. Afterall, it's the land of smiles.

Be sketic if driver offer drive you to buy cheap gold jewellery. If in doubt, check with Hotel concierge. Learn a Thai word or two, it helps ease the girl.

Enjoy.

Good stuff, GT.

I failed to explain one thing. I assume the airport ATM will have jacked up rates, hence the idea of only a 500 bt transaction. A visitor can then go to any ATM downtown and maybe get a better rate.

An ATM tip: To avoid getting all 1000 bt bills (for a 5000 bt withdrawal) out of the machine, tap in 4900 and you'll get some small bills that way. You want small bills because you will find some vendors or SPs or taxis won't have/want to give you change. Try to have exact change.

Bwah!

anyone who approaches you with an offer to sell you gold or jade, tells you a story about a "government or tax free for foreigners" sale, just nod and smile and say you have no money for those things...unless you want to play along and enjoy the theatre of a lifetime. I've seen some of the most elaborate cons in Bangkok and shaken my head in wonder at the audacity of some of the con men and the incredible naivete and greed of tourists.

Like anywhere else on this planet, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
