Its still going on. They are on the last ep "POINTS". Great show. Although i've always wondered, who had it worse, the boys over on the pacific theater or the atlantic theater?

My Dad fought in Europe and my uncle was in Burma. From their stories I would say the Far East was the worst.

I saw the series when it originally aired on TMN...

Great series but IMHO there are too many gaps in the story line. It would have been nice to have a little more continuity....

The excellant part of the whole story is how they interviewed the actual soldiers who lived through the war.

No matter what theatre someone fought in, it was hell on earth in both.

A couple of famous sayings that came out of it:

Never have so many owed so much to so few
War makes ordinary men do extraordinary things

It also plays on TVO (evenings) at least once a year, on Mondays and /or Wednesdays I believe, its just starting or is going to start again soon.
Ive watched the series 3 times already on tvo.

10 hours in front of the TV seems a bit much, they should have broken it up at least in half.

It went by pretty quickly.

Ike: Countdown to D-Day was on just before and after.. not a bad performance by Tom Selleck.

Band of Bro's was a great series that rode on the coattails of "saving private ryan" using their set dec.,picture vehicles, wardrobe, etc. Scriptwise, like most American centric historical dramas they seemed to ignore the fact that WW2 involved more than a bunch of american boys from the heartland and some mean germans. It was infact a world war and involved soldiers and civilians from all over the world and was raging for a couple of years before the americans got off of the fence and decided which side to join. There aren't too many movies depicting the Canadian experience in WW2, "Dieppe" is one that comes to mind, "The Great Escape" was bent with an american slant. The real participants where mostly Brits, Aussi's and Canadians. The "Rat Patrol" series was based on the brit SAS. "Hogans Hero's" is just pure unadulterated historical fact. Can anyone think of a good CANCON WW2 movie?

Dieppe -- released recently on DVD is a pretty good Cancon WW2 picture -- suffers a little in the fact there needed to be more cash but does a good job of portraying not just the tragedy of the invasion but the heroism of the Canucks involved.

Awesome...

This is one of the best series and my most favorite.

I have the box set of Band of Brothers, and anything to do with History especially war, I can sit for hours and watch it

I really like this one because they have some of the original men, and sitting and watching it, you do see how proud they are and also the sadness they have in their faces. They have lost soo many friends in the war and I don't care, but it did bring a tear to my eye. The last caption of Winters of the series, he was going by a question from his grandson and his answer some somewhat I can recall , " No son I served in a group of hero's" You can tell that he has gone through allot, and the war is still there for him in memories..

I recommend this to anyone. Buy the box set, and sit down and watch the whole thing even the extras. It is an amazeing story for what allot of young men lost their live not only for their country but the whole world.

I had seen a couple of episodes previously and was lucky to catch them all yesterday. Excellent series!

For Canadian content there's a series that airs periodically on History & Tvo, called For King and Empire. It's a docu-series that highlights Canadians in WWI. It's excellent and worth checking out when you can catch it.

..your comment.

One of the best war memoirs:

"Quartered Safe Out Here" George MacDonald Fraser

See also
"Wingate's Raiders" Charles Rolo

Both tell a LOT about Burma.

Orde Wingate was a true pioneer in the take to them behind the lines stuff. He got his start against the arabs in Palestine.

If that was your only problem with the series, I'd suggest you read the book of the same name by Stephen Ambrose. The series was put together by pulling stories from that, and of course taking some dramatic licence. You'll find the book will fill in a few of the gaps.

It was the 101st Airborne Regiment. I don't think there was a 501st Airborne. 501st was one of the battalions mentioned in the series and if I recall correctly, the Easy Company followed was in the 502nd Battalion of the 101st Airborne Regiment.

LIM
Easy Company was the fifth company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, of the US 101st Airborne Division.
