There's talk of banning the hi-tech swimsuits for competitive swimming because they give an unfair advantage, no guff!

They felt that the horde of new world records that have come about over the last couple of years show this. How will this move affect the records already in the books and how do you look at Phelps records with this move?

Is it just another Clap skate in speed skating, better skis in downhill, or better cleats in track?

I think there is only 1 way to "even the playing field" in women's competitive swimming. Ban their suits altogether.

Yes, I totally agree.

I don't see why they could not do some tests, have the same swimmer race in the new suits, and regular suits, and time both, and do it many times with many swimmers. This would allow them to calculate a suit factor of how much the suit helps, then they could adjust the times of the suit records up, and determine which were really records.

What I find ridiculous is that Phelps wore a high-tech suit in Beijing, but now because there's new technology (and he's tied to a sponsor, Speedo, that hasn't caught up), and because he's losing and losing world records, he and his coach are bellyaching.

Boo frickin' hoo.

Over he years MANY sports have had changes to uniforms ,equipment etc
Remembers LEATHER hockey skates and gloves took days for them to dry out.
Wood hockey sticks, tighter wound baseballs, wool baseball uniforms, football helmets with NO masks basketball shorts got longer and longer helmets in hockey etc.

Although swimming is an individual sport the rule should be either they ALL wear them or NOBODY does.

Any day above the ground is a good day!!!!

12 more world records broken today Including Canadian Anamay Pierse in the 200 Breastroke

Pierse sets world record in 200m breaststroke
CTVOlympics.caPosted Thursday, July 30, 2009 5:37 PM ET

Wearing her golden suit, Annamay Pierse of Vancouver qualified for the 200-metre breaststroke final in world-record fashion on Thursday at the world aquatic championships in Rome.

After posting the fastest preliminary-heats time earlier in the day, Pierse finished the race in two minutes, 20.12 seconds. At 25 years old, Pierse edged the previous mark of 2:20.22, set by American swimmer Rebecca Soni at the Beijing Olympic Games last summer.

"I knew I had it in me," Pierse said. "I knew I had to have a great swim."

Soni finished the semifinal with the second fastest time overall in 2:20.32. Austria's Mirna Jukic finished third.

"[Pierse] was very poised in her race," added Pierre Lafontaine, Swimming Canada national coach and CEO. "She wasn't overdoing anything and kept her technique. Now she is going to turn her focus to trying to win gold."
