Dumb penalties, bad strategies, looking clueless on offensive = bad coaching. If it happens over and over with no improvement... then it is coaching

always blame the coach eh??

if the boys can't put the puck in the net - its not the coach's fault!!!
So what is the problem with the Leafs? Why haven't they won a Cup under Quinn?

I think Quinn has now worn out his welcome in both the blue and red maple leaf.

He's tired, and worn out. His idea of what works is old and not as good as he thinks it is. Take away the red line, and his system is nothing more than a mad scramble geared for the penalty box.

The best thing to come out of this loss today is,;
Now they will be able to replace Quinn as coach for the next major tournament.

They had no choice but to put him there, he won the last world cup and the last olympics...

Now they can get some new blood behind the bench. A motivator I hope because I think that is what Canada seemed to lack the most.

Although our energy and intensity levels were much better today... we were still out coached. The style of hockey has changed since the last Olympics and that impressive combined coaching record of 49 wins and 52 losses this year by Quinn and Martin was far too predictable for other teams to prepare for. Quinn is just too stubborn to admit he's wrong and make the necessary adjustments and changes.

Brodeur stepped up to the plate as always... but Bertuzzi and Pronger should never be invited back. Even St. Louis looked like a lost puppy out there... although at the start I thought his speed would be an huge asset. It only goes to prove once again that you can have the best players in the world... but that still doesn't make you a great team. We'll be back.

I`m starting to wonder if they should hire a guy not in the NHL for that year to be the coach so he can devote 100%of his time preparing for it. With the Leafs fighting for a playoff spot, I`m not sure how much thought Quinn gave the Olympics before last week.

well why haven't the leafs won the cup when they had Maloney, Brophy, Armstrong, Burns (and the others) behind the bench???

a coach can do so much - its up to the players to score the goals!!!! - goals wins hockey games!!!
The Ballard years don't count. :D

seeing that the next winter olympics are in Vancouver and Bertuzzi is a fan favourite there - I'm sure he will be on the team!!!
I was a huge Bertuzzi up until this year. It obvious he's not the same player he was before the Moore incident. It shouldn't matter whether the games are in Vancouver or not... he should be playing his heart out whenever and wherever is he wearing a Canadian uniform.

its been a stressful time for Bertuzzi - he has always played hard and I'm sure with time this incident will fade away and he can concentrate on the game.

I've never throught Pronger was the player he's built up to be. Same with McCabe.

Quinn just isn't enough of a deep thinker to adjust strategies. Hopefully when the Leafs miss the playoff he gets his walking papers.

Its quite debatable that Canada has the best players in the world. Three shutouts shows they aren't even close to measuring up to world class talent. Truly a pitiful performance.

...shows we brought the wrong ponies to the show..Gretz was loyal to too many of the players he thought were playing well before the lockout. Adam Foote is slow...way past his prime. Pronger is way overrated..was outmuscled constantly by players 50 lbs lighter than him, heck Koivu outmuscled him behind the net....Pronger was directly responsible for both goals against in today's game.....Iginla, Richards and St Louis seemed to have stage fright ...Draper one of the 20 best players in Canada..give me a break...Doan is the same, 2nd line NHL'er at best.. Speed is the name of the Olympic game, and we leave Spezza and Staal at home...this was a team that was badly chosen, that didn't have the heart and grit Canadian teams are known for and when the going got tough, they folded. Yea, some responsibility lies with the coaches..but more with the players. They never, at any point in this tourney, showed any urgency...never willing to bring their game up to the level the European and Russian teams did...for those countries, this is more important than the Stanley Cup. You don't bring your A game..you're screwed, and this Canadian team learned the hard way..

Pat Quinn is the most overrated coach of any sport. He is terrible playing aged fools more than young studs all the time. He is the "old guard" and not in tune with the "new nhl". Pat Quinn should be as much on the trading block as any other leaf but to tell you the truth i would rather have aki berg than pat quinn (in relation)

One thing Quinn did differently in 02 was he shortened the bench as much as necessary... this time round he was still rolling 4 lines even in the last 5 minutes of the CAN vs. RUS game.
