Though there is a social movement against science (at least anything that doesn't mesh with the bible), it doesn't have much in the way of traction. Science in the US is galloping along just as well as in Canada. The only difference is that in the US, the bible thumpers work for a high profile while in Canada they don't. There are just as few (if not less) hicks inthe US then there were, they just are more likely to be using the science of communication to advertise their limited intelligence. And yes, there are many Canadians who are luddites or who don't believe in things like evolution.
Science and inovation are going well in the states, just they don't have the star power of the space race (which was state sponsored drive for science).
