I was going to say the same thing.Oh wow!
And here I thought they were all destroyed....
Maybe you might want to edit your clickbait title to accurately reflect that it was a scale MODEL of the Avro Arrow that was found in Lake Ontario.
One of the dumbest decisions of all time! The Avro Arrow is the reason why the Conservatives spent 20 of the following 21 years in opposition.
You should consider parking that self-defeating Canadian inferiority complex. But does anybody actually think Canada could have competed with the US in that market,...??? Now of coarse it could have been a great money pit for taxes.
Despite whether Canada could compete in the market, why have all traces destroyed? But does anybody actually think Canada could have competed with the US in that market,...???
Facing reality is not a "self-defeating Canadian inferiority complex",... you should try it some time. You should consider parking that self-defeating Canadian inferiority complex.
After WW II, Canada was a world leader in science and technology, we could compete with anybody. The Americans bought the Avro engineers into their aerospace projects. It was a monstrously bad decision.
To add insult to injury, Diefenbaker also put a stop to South European immigration to Canada - that worked out well for the Conservatives.
I can only assume that those in the position, out side of the government, to make that decision,... were pissed, and didn't want it given to the US.Despite whether Canada could compete in the market, why have all traces destroyed?
It's impossible to tell what could have happened. Maybe Avro could have been Canada's Boeing, maybe not. Maybe Blackberry could have dominated the smartphone market, maybe not.As a Canadian, I don't like the decision.
But does anybody actually think Canada could have competed with the US in that market,...???

I offer up two guesses:Despite whether Canada could compete in the market, why have all traces destroyed?
I blame HarrisYou should consider parking that self-defeating Canadian inferiority complex.

Mike Harris, the former Premier was only 13 in 1958 when the AVRO project was killed, if this is the "Harris" that you are referring to? However when the "Duffer" was Premier he did nix funding to a film about the AVRO project in the 80s.I blame Harris
But hey,... it would have produced lots of over paid, government backed jobs,.... until it was eventually canceled anyway.Seriously the Avro Arrow is such a myth
Ranks right up there with Bigfoot
We all like to think it is a huge source of Canadian pride that we built the best airplane in the world
But
Mar 25 1958 was the first time an Arrow ever flew (and was discontinued by 1959)
In that same year the F104 Starfighter sets world altitude and speed records (this plane design lasted until 2004 in active service, although obviously at end of life it was no longer the best out there)
I would also point out that Avro was a British company who made numerous other designs (eg Avro Anson in same year) non of which were world beating super planes so why would the Arrow be so miraculously better?
CF-103 (cancelled) & CF-105 Arrow (cancelled)
Only plane we ever produced from this series was the CF-100 Canuck (a plane that existed 1950 to 1981 but so feeble I am sure most people reading this have never even heard of it without Google)
TS140 (cancelled) VZ9 (test vehicle only) C102 (prototype only)
Avro Canada built jack & shit
Lots of dreams but every project they started failed miserably
Yet the Arrow was to be the greatest plane ever uh huh
Canadian delusion much?
There is no shortage to governmental make work projects...But hey,... it would have produced lots of over paid, government backed jobs,.... until it was eventually canceled anyway.
