You watch a film, ANY FILM, because it's a good film, not because it ONLY looks cool. You watch this movie for the visuals, not the plot. Hence it is worth the trip to the theatre to see it in IMAX
Of course, those films were bordering on works of cinematic art. Avatar was made to appeal to a less sophisticated and wider audience, hence the somewhat banal storyline. But for some strange reason, I just really got in the 'zone' of this movie. I was entranced by it, the visuals, the pace, everything just came together for me to make it a great experience. It probably helped that I barely had any expectations going into it...You watch a film, ANY FILM, because it's a good film, not because it ONLY looks cool.
If that's the case, then just watch any film with the sound off. If visuals are the only thing that interest you.
I saw Avatar, it was good. I wouldn't rush to see it again.
I'd still rather watch The Godfather, Alien, Shawshank Redemption or Lawrence of Arabia (which blows Avatar away) before I watch Avatar again.
None of those films had computer animation on the level of Avatar to 'enhance' them and they're still better than Avatar.
Sure the visuals were amazing, and the storyline a little typical (but still interesting in my opinion) -- half the people criticizing the storyline are only offended by the messages -- but it's the little details that really immerse you in the movie. Everything from the way the natives ears twitch when they are amused or lie back when they're angry to the (sometimes) witty dialogue to the real-world like wilderness. Avatar does a great job of making sci-fi real, and THAT is what keeps people coming back.Of course, those films were bordering on works of cinematic art. You told me what I need to know. I won't be rushing to see it in the theatre. You watch a film, ANY FILM, because it's a good film, not because it ONLY looks cool.

Well worth a trip to the theater, see it in 3D and on as large a screen as you can.....Already #4 on the all time (world wide) box office draw movie list after only 17 days! This film is a phenomenon if ever there was one and I haven't had a chance to see it yet...
In THIS case, I will see it in the theater, but I will also buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out... A co-worker went to see it and he said, yes- it is visually stunning, but it was also very well written and very well acted. In my book, that means its worth the price of admission.
What is it about Cameron eh?! Everybody hassles the guy for going WAY over budget for production and marketing costs and EVERYTIME it pays off in spades! The Terminator franchise, The Abyss, Aliens, Titanic and now AVATAR... Not bad for a guy from Kapuskasing!
Not a surprise. There is a very strong love story in there too.A lot of girls seem to love this movie.
You're telling me that you never saw a movie where you went, "eh, kinda dumb plot but man that was some fantasic special effects"?You watch a film, ANY FILM, because it's a good film, not because it ONLY looks cool.
Yes I have. You're telling me that you never saw a movie where you went, "eh, kinda dumb plot but man that was some fantasic special effects"?
No. I won't even watch it. I'll watch Star Trek II, 100 times over Avatar once.Just go see it.
I've seen it twice. For IMAX an hour ahead is good as you have have center seats for the best visuals. If you're going to a regular 3D screening, a half hour ought to do on a weeknight...depending on how busy your theater normally is.I'm seeing the movie tomorrow at 7, will it be sold out, how early should I get there to get tickets and a good seat?
