Asians in sports

Wow, I'm impressed. Especially, Asian women in sports.

It used to be that Asians can only compete in the non-endurance, finesse sport like synro-diving, golf, etc.

Checkout Asian girls in head-to-head sports:

Beach volleyball - China & Japanese
Indoor VB - China, Japanese, S. Koreans
Football - China, S. Koreans
Marathons & 1000 K+ - Japanese, China
Weightlifting - China
Swimming - China, Japan
Short track skating - S. Korea
Downhill skiing - Japan
and the list goes on...

Incredible, Chinese girls showing the best Brazilian pair how to play beach, spiking and blocking in those cute red bikinis. Now if only the Japanese pair improve, we see some cutie play.

You're forgetting the one sport that probably brings them the most publicity re: their presence in sports in North America. Baseball. First it were the Japanese players and now the Koreans with some Chinese. ESPN did a big thing on Ichiro last week I remember. While only a handful of them are legit starts, it is only a matter of time.

Yes, that is true, but if you look at the Olympics, China actually rates quite low in terms of medals won per capita. I think Lichtenstein, with its population of about 35,000, has won the most Olympics medals per capita.

Matter of time

Nope, didn't forget. Was just focused on the women after weeekend watching female sports.

I disagree with the legit starts comment as Asian hasn't been playing the game as long and play it 'our way'. They are used to less agressive charge type of play. Language and culture barriers will take time to overcome, look at Yao Ming of NBA. Just a matter of time for more Japanese, S. Koreans and Taiwanese cross-overs to join MLB.

what I love about sports its just about the ultimate meritocracy in society, pretty much doesnt matter your race, religion or nationality, if you are good you will play, if you suck you will be cut.

Seoul sisters

Not quite head-to-head sport but some of the NCAA girls can be fairly agressive at play.

How about the South Koreans in golf?
Michelle Wie is of Korean heritage and there is a long list of others who are
making their mark in women's golf.
For the longest time, I thought she was Taiwanese, being 5'11" is so unusual for Korean. She put a lot of men to shame with her abilities. Nice face, good skin for a teenager. Well dressed and disciplined.

Her bio and the other Seoul sisters,

And Grace Park with her fashion sense and cute smile.

Feel free to post some pics of those beach volleyball players. Where'd you see that anyway?
Different times on ESPN & Sportsnet. www.fivb.org is not user friendly for searching player info.

Only U.S. or top ranking beach players have websites. Others are harder to find. Still searching...

Curling

I'm surprised that none of you Canucks didn't mention curling.
It was funny watching my Canadian friends watching the Japanese girls curling team on TV at a sports bar couple of years ago.
All gluded to the TV's with the sound up, you'd think they would be watching something else, right! :)
